Job Description
Business Support - Chinook High School


We are excited to have a Business Support opportunity starting September 2023.


Lethbridge School Division is looking for an energetic professional to work in a fast paced high school office. Lethbridge School Division, embraces diversity and functions in a dynamic, innovative and fast paced environment.


Business Support positions are responsible for the accounting, budget, purchasing and inventory control functions. Work at this level differs from other positions performing similar work by the greater scope of responsibilities in relation to budget preparation, the greater variety of factors that impact the financial operations of the school and multi-faceted nature of the school programs. This results in a greater analytical, problem solving and monitoring role. Positions at this level also function in an expert/advisory role to administrative staff within their area of responsibility.


This position works directly with school support staff, administrative staff and with Division Office staff. The Business Support contacts extend to vendors, parents and service providers and involve resolving problems, explaining requirements and obtaining information.

What do you need to succeed?


  • Have a strong understanding of internal control procedures that will assist administration and the candidate charged with financial responsibilities to ensure proper financial procedures are in place to safeguard the Division’s assets and safeguard all employees who have responsibility for performing or monitoring financial transactions
  • Have excellent communication skills
  • Have expertise with various software programs including SchoolCash Online accounting software, PowerSchool, ADW/Atrieve financial packages in addition to Microsoft Office programs
  • Have a history demonstrating the ability to contribute to the positive climate of the school
  • Have the ability to work independently and collaboratively, including supports to the Parent Association
  • Sound decision making skills
  • Possess a demonstrated commitment to lifelong learning
  • Have a history of positive interactions with students and staff
  • Have a strong understanding and commitment towards our school’s philosophy
  • Have a history of building and cultivating positive culture
  • Have a history of being a committed team member at both the school and division level

We are looking for experience in performing the following:


  • Candidates may be tested for computer proficiency
  • Knowledgeable of current standard accounting practices
  • Strong computer skills with particular knowledge in accounting software in order to develop and implement record keeping and prepare various standard and specialized financial reports
  • Specialized knowledge of accounting principles and school practices

Requirements


Education and Experience Required:


  • Combination of education and experience
  • Post-secondary diploma in accounting and business administration with some related experience.
  • Proof of Grade 12 or General Educational Development (GED). Education received outside of Canada will require a Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) confirming high school or post secondary equivalencies


CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:


In order to ensure and maintain a safe and secure working and learning environment, applicants new to Lethbridge School


Division who are offered employment must provide:


  • Documentation of a valid Social Insurance Number in the employee’s legal name. If valid Social Insurance documentation in the current legal name can not be provided, the successful candidate will be required to obtain a new one within three days of hire
  • A satisfactory Intervention Record Check from South Region Alberta Child and Family Services.
  • Proof of photo identification, may be a valid driver’s licence, provincial identification card as issued by a licensed government registry office, valid passport or Nexus card. If one cannot be provided, a new card must be obtained and proof of application provided within three days of hire
  • A police information check; including Vulnerable Sector Check from Police Services or an RCMP detachment that does not have any charges or convictions


Benefits


The hourly rate ranges from $24.25 - $27.00/hour depending on experience.
