Position description


The Department of Pediatrics, McGill University and the Montreal Children’s Hospital of the McGill University


Health Centre (MUHC) are inviting applications for the position of The Wendy MacDonald Chair in Pediatric Medical Education at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor.


This Chair, which is open to both internal and external candidates, will be assigned for a 3- to 5-year term, depending on the accompanying terms of appointment, with potential for renewal pending review. The prospective Chair holder is expected to be a PhD researcher with a primary focus and experience in the domain of Health Professions Education, or a clinician-scientist with a focus and track record in the domain of Health Professions Education, or a clinician-educator with a scholarly track record in the domain of Health Professions Education. Clinician-scientist candidates would be expected to commit at least 50% of their time to educational research and other scholarly work in Health Professions Education and to developing and fostering research and innovation in Health Professions Education within the Department of Pediatrics. Clinician-scientist candidates would also be expected to provide classroom teaching, like all academic clinicians in the Department of Pediatrics; this could be to medical students, residents and fellows, or graduate students. PhD scientist candidates would be expected to commit approximately 75% of their time to a combination of educational research and other scholarly work in Health Professions Education and classroom teaching (to medical students, residents and fellows, or graduate students) and at least 25% of their time to developing and fostering research and innovation in Health Professions Education within the Department of Pediatrics.


McGill faculty members are expected to contribute to service activities within their units, the University, and the wider scholarly community. A demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion is also expected.


A tenure stream position may be available for the selected candidate, depending on profile and qualifications.


Candidates Must


  • Have a a graduate degree in Health Professions Education.
  • Candidates with an MD degree must be certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or equivalent
  • Candidates with an MD degree must be eligible for licensure in Quebec
  • For MD applicants, bilingual language skills (French and English) are required. A commitment to acquire these language skills at the level needed to practice medicine in Quebec for those not already bilingual would also be acceptable. For PhD applicants, bilingual language skills (French and English) are an asset but not essential.
  • Internal candidates who are research-intensive clinician scientists who currently hold FRQS awards may be eligible to apply, but candidates may not also hold another endowed chair or Canada Research Chair.
