We are seeking an experienced Aircraft Escape System Engineer to join our dynamic team. As an Aircraft Escape System Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, development, and implementation of escape systems for various types of aircraft. For the remainder of this document, Escape Systems is intended to encompass all of the systems dedicated to allowing an aircrew member to safety escape their aircraft in an emergency. This includes ejection seats, restraints, canopy removal systems, canopy fracturing systems, emergency oxygen systems, survival equipment containers, parachutes, and cartridge/pressure actuated devices (CADs/PADs). You will collaborate with cross- functional teams to ensure the safety and reliability of these systems. Your expertise will play a crucial role in protecting and saving lives in emergency situations. The ideal candidate possesses a strong background in aerospace engineering, with a focus on escape systems and a passion for aviation safety.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage contractors (issue RFQs, review proposals, track performance, assess deliverables) to complete design change projects concerning escape systems.
- Manage the configuration Escape Systems
- Support the conduct of Aircrew Life Support Equipment suite modifications and introductions.
- Gather, advise on, and issue specifications related to escape systems and design changes to escape systems.
- Provide technical and propose operational risk mitigation and corrective action plans. Support risk assessment and risk management activities where escape systems are concerned.
- Create and/or review detailed engineering specifications, drawings, and documentation for escape system components and installations.
- Manage design change certification projects to deliver escape system improvements to the fleet.
- Work closely with suppliers and vendors to ensure the availability of high-quality components and systems for production.
- Support the manufacturing process by providing technical guidance, resolving engineering issues, and overseeing system integration.
- Review in service information to identify and report issues affecting the safety of Escape Systems
- Support Fleet Management through the establishment and adaptation of Maintenance Schedules.
- Stay current with industry trends, technological advancements, and regulatory changes related to aircraft escape systems.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, to integrate escape systems into aircraft design.
- Act as Subject Matter Expert concerning escape system and escape system component testing and certification. Write / Review test plans. Write / review reports. Where agreed with regulators, make findings of compliance.
- Conduct feasibility studies and analyze customer requirements to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and industry standards. 2
- Drafting escape system procedures
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
- Have a working knowledge of aeromedical aspects related to escape systems including exposure to shock, acceleration, windblast, sound pressure, decompression/rarified atmosphere, and other elements pertinent to the survivability of a crew member in an ejection.
- Comprehensive knowledge of aircraft escape systems, their concept of operation.
- Experience in conducting, authoring, and issuing engineering analyses in the specialties appropriate to Escape Systems (Mechanical/Structural, Aerodynamic, Human Factors/Crew Systems and others) including risk assessments, structural, and reliability predictions.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in aerospace engineering or a related field.
- Prior experience in the aerospace industry, specifically in the design, sustainment, modification, and/or implementation of aircraft escape systems, is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with aerospace industry standards and regulations, such as FAA, EASA, and MIL-STD.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to make sound engineering judgments.
- Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and present complex technical information.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
