Student Immigration Advisor Jobs

Min. 2 years' experience working in student services at a post-secondary institution.

Experience with ordering textbooks and liaising with publishers is an asset.

Liase with textbook publishers on a regular basis.

Provide advice and support to students in academic, personal, and career matters.

5+ years of related advising and student support experience in a post-secondary environment.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Proficient knowledge of computer systems, including PeopleSoft and Microsoft Office.

• Offer guidance to students in aligning their program progress with their career and educational objectives

• Coordinate work placements and programs aimed at developing workplace skills

• Manage attendance records and create schedules as needed

• Assist students with timetable creation, school adjustment, attendance issues, and study skills

• Facilitate referrals of students to community agencies or other professionals, as necessary

• Maintain availability during office hours and scheduled appointments to meet with students

Developing, accessing and securing accurate client management data that may be required by Federal/Provincial government offices, UBC and other designated authorities

Consulting with individual non-Canadians regarding their temporary immigration status and requirements to lawfully enter and remain in Canada

Providing consultative advisory services to faculties, departments and units with respect to recruitment and hiring practices in relation to immigration legislation

Interpreting, analyzing and resolving immigration issues that arise and advise on corrective action(s)

Developing and delivering a variety of immigration related training/workshops

Remaining current with immigration law/policies through continuous professional development

Electronic Document Records Management/Alfresco experience is required

Responds to inquiries from partner institutions and applicants regarding admission requirements, transfer credit, admission procedures, and admission decisions

Minimum two years of providing student services in a post-secondary environment, plus considerable related student advising and undergraduate admissions evaluations experience

Computer proficiency in a Windows environment using MS Office and Google applications Reporting and statistical analysis experience is an asset

Working knowledge of the University of Alberta academic policies and procedures

Demonstrated ability to manage challenging situations in a respectful and thoughtful manner

A minimum of three years’ experience assessing and advising clients in an educational or social and community services environment is required;

Three-year diploma or degree in a field related to social and community services, or Education.

Further education (diploma, degree, graduate certificate) in academic advising or career coaching would be considered an asset

Exceptional interpersonal, organizational and communication skills;

Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel;

The ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision;

Excellent organizational, time management, and multitasking skills.

Maintain a database of student information, telephone logs, and student feedback to generate student reports for management whenever required.

Experience in a post-secondary education institution is an asset.

Advise prospective students about the programs offered, admissions procedures, eligibility, costs involved, and financial assistance services.

Arrange orientation programs, educational workshops, and graduate programs for students.
