Seed Production Agronomist Jobs

Monitor soil conditions, conduct nutrient analysis, and develop appropriate soil management practices.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills that can translate data into actionable insights.

Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively within a team.

Post-secondary education in Agriculture, or relevant combination of education and experience

Uses remote sensing and satellite imagery and proprietary software, interprets data to create quality zone maps specific to customer fields

Contacts customers by phone and/or email to collect information based grower contract requirements, including but not limited to:

A valid Agronomy certification; CCA or 4R preferred

Previous experience doing data collection for R&D purposes, growth staging, recognizing disease, weeds, growth, and other environmental pressures.

Uses GPS and maps to guide soil sampling plans and monitor completion.

Use remote sensing and satellite imagery, interpreting data to create quality Farmers Edge zone maps by fields, using proprietary software.

Provide support in collecting and completing contract requirements with growers.

Strong understanding of Agronomy/Precision Agronomy, including regional farming practices, knowledge of fertilizer and seed, drainage regulations and farm equipment

Previous experience doing data collection for R&D purposes, growth staging, recognizing disease, weeds, growth, and other environmental pressures.

Interpret soil test results from Farmers Edge Labs or chosen regional contract laboratory.

Traveling within the region to meet with growers (when conditions permit)

The rate of pay will be $21/hr.

Prepare breeding material and participate in winter nursery (contra) when required.

Execute seed quality analysis (NIR) and liaise with lab to ensure accurate seed quality data.

Support QA/QMS in activities as required by the breeding program.

Degree or Diploma in Agriculture or related discipline .

Competent in troubleshooting farm and small plot research equipment.

A valid class 5 driver’s license.

Minimum of 8 years in agri-business industry in roles of progressive responsibility (field sales, management, marketing, business development).

Experience in the Seed Treatment industry is preferred.

Bachelor’s degree in science (such as Agronomy, Chemistry, Biology), business or related field.

Advanced degree (Master’s, MBA, PhD) preferred.

Passion for the agricultural industry.

An equivalent combination of education and training may be considered

One (1) year of experience in a high-volume production environment involving a perishable product

Experience in horticulture, agriculture or forestry.

Be flexible regarding ongoing changes in responsibilities, assignments and corporate structure.

Secondary school graduation or equivalent.

Be exposed to mold, dust, extreme temperatures (both hot and cold), as well as pesticides and other chemicals

Manual labour or outdoor working experience.

Experience working with plants; (i.e. tree planter, gardener, landscaper, orchard worker, and cone picking), or equivalent training and experience.

Working For The BC Public Service

Diploma/Certificate or bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience

Eligible for membership in the provincial institute of agrologists with a future requirement to obtain accreditation.

Minimum of four years of related work experience

Previous experience working with Western Canadian crops.
