Job Description
The NFAMC is searching for a responsible and creative individual to work with newcomer youth (ages 13-24), recruiting new participants and organizing enjoyable and purposeful activities, while supporting each youth with reaching their goals. Reporting to the Youth Services Coordinator, the Youth Worker is responsible for building the capacity of


programming for newcomer youth (ages 13-24) through the delivery of activities, outings and events,


promoting community engagement and an active lifestyle.


Position Summary


  • Creating and delivering presentations to a variety of audiences.
  • Referrals – connect newcomers to a wide array of internal and external supports.
  • Administration – prepare and submit progress and summary reports. Maintain and report statistics for reporting in compliance with stakeholder agreements.
  • As part of a multidisciplinary team, develop and implement all youth activities and initiatives, helping clients to become/remain connected to their community.
  • Performing duties as a self-directed customer service ambassador who is assertive, motivated, detailed and creative; ability to anticipate needs and initiate appropriate action.
  • Quality assurance – ensure accuracy and thoroughness is achieved in the capturing, organizing, maintaining and reporting of all client data, forms, statistics and databases.
  • In cooperation with the Youth Services Coordinator, establish goals and timeframes for the implementation and ongoing operation of a comprehensive newcomer youth program, following a case management and holistic approach.
  • Updating social media accounts and maintaining strong digital content.
  • Monitoring the quality of service provided by the program to ensure that the needs of clients and the general public are being met in a timely, thorough and friendly manner.
  • Assessment – determine client needs and identify emerging issues and best practices.


Qualifications/ Required Experience


  • Crisis Prevention/Non-Violent Intervention (CPI)
  • Desired current certification:
  • Acceptable Police clearance certificate.
  • Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST)
  • CPR/First Aid
  • Safety Care
  • Preferred to have at least one year of experience working with youth (ages 13-24)
  • Completed or working toward the completion of post-secondary education. Preference is given to education focus/interest in one of the following areas: Child & Youth Worker, Recreation & Leisure Studies, Child Studies, Social Justice and Equity, Psychology, Sociology or Social Service Worker.
  • Motivational counselling techniques


Essential Skills / Abilities


  • Involvement with activities or special event planning - managing logistics and resources.
  • Comfortable creating and delivering presentations to a variety of audiences.
  • Excellent judgment and decision making with a strong sense of professional boundaries.
  • The anticipated position start date will be during the week of July 31st, 2023.
  • Proficient English language skills and preferred second language: Arabic, Spanish, Pashto and/or Dari (please provide information in your application about all languages that you are fluent in).
  • Experience in developing and maintaining community relationships and partnerships.
  • Flexible, self-directed, team-player who is able to work effectively with minimal supervision.
