Video Inspector Operator (Continuous)

POSITION FUNCTION

Operate CCTV video inspection unit for the condition assessments of sanitary and storm sewer collection system. Provide a correct diagnosis of potential problems or concerns such as structural deterioration, blockages by roots or debris, or misalignment.

KEY DUTIES

Operate video inspection unit to inspect sanitary and storm sewer collection system infrastructure; set up mainline camera/crawler in access ports; control movement of camera through mains and laterals; use digital video recorder; keep records such as location, type of main, condition assessments of pipe; set up traffic control signs and cones as required; test access port/manholes with gas detector and log results; report problems with mains and underground infrastructure to supervisor. Conduct physical inspections of storm drain outfalls and record findings for further review, generate repair work orders based on inspections; respond to calls for plugged sewer and storm drain laterals; conduct monthly maintenance on laterals, respond to calls for broken laterals on sanitary and storm sewer collection system and repair as required. Utilize condition assessment tools such as Sewer Line Rapid Assessment Tools (SL-RAT) to assess sewer and drain mainlines, perform access ports using pole camera and 360o camera.

Provide direction to other staff working onsite, ensuring safety standards are met; operate a vehicle to transport material and equipment; coordinate cleaning of sanitary or storm sewer collection mains with other crews and equipment.

Perform pre- and post-trip inspections of vehicle; report repairs needed and damage to supervisor and mechanic shop; perform routine service and maintenance on camera crawler and related video equipment; check first aid and safety equipment; complete work orders and time sheets; requisition materials and equipment from City Stores or tools depot.

Perform related duties as required and where qualified.

INDEPENDENCE

Work is assigned and reviewed by supervisor.

Issues such as procedural problems and damaged facilities are referred to supervisor.

Key Skills And Abilities

Organize and prioritize work

Knowledge of standard methods, materials, tools, equipment and procedures utilized to conduct video inspections of sanitary and storm sewer collection systems.

Thorough understanding of municipal sanitary and storm sewer collection systems.

Operate video inspection unit and maintain associated equipment.

Working level operation of current City word processing, spreadsheet and related specialty software.

Use hand tools.

Maintain accurate records.

Direct the work of Assistants.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Work safely on job sites.

Qualifications

Formal Education, Training and Occupational Certification

High school graduation.

Wastewater Collection System Operator Level 2 Certificate (80 hours).

Pipeline Assessment Certification Program – PACP/NASSCO. (16 hours + Exam)

Traffic Control Certification. (16 hours + Exam)

Confined Space Hazard Awareness. (8 hours)

Current and valid Class 5 B.C. Driver's Licence.

Experience

4 years of related experience with wastewater collections systems.

or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

OTHER

May be requested to substitute in a more senior position.

Working knowledge of Granite XP video inspection software would be an asset.

Experience with CCTV and robotics would be an asset.

Work schedule Monday - Friday, 40 hour work week

$40.30 per hour, Pay Grade 11
