Usability Researcher I Jobs

Role: Usability Researcher 1

Location: 100% Remote in Canada (PST zone)

Type: Contract - 12 - 18 months

Responsibilities

• Work with Designers, Product Managers, and Engineers to help influence product decisions related to accessibility
• Work closely with other UX researchers to create research plans, conduct studies and communicate findings to help drive more accessible and inclusive products and experiences for users.
• Ideal to have a wide range of skills and understanding for all aspects of disability, including visual, mobility, hearing, cognitive and speech and how accessibility can drive improvements in the overall user experience
• Synthesize findings, develop insights, and deliver research reports on accessibility-related topics
• Create and own an accessibility-focused research plan

Qualifications:

• 1+ years of working with assistive technologies (examples: NVDA, JAWS, ZoomText, Dragon Naturally Speaking) OR 1+ years of experience working with accessibility and assistive technology on multiple platforms: Windows, Android, Mac or iOS
• Experience with a variety of methods including but not limited to – user studies, baseline studies, surveys, customer visits, contextual inquiry, interviews, A/B testing, or heuristic analysis
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Demonstrated experience with Accessibility standards and guidelines (examples: 508, 255, CVAA, EN 301 549, WCAG) or certification in Accessibility (examples: Trusted Tester, CPACC) would be a huge plus!
• A MA/MS in HCI, Design, Cognitive Psychology/Neuroscience, I/O Psychology, Sociology, Human Factors, Ethnography, Anthropology, or similar field; OR a BA/BS in one of the above with training in Design Thinking or industry experience
• A proven ability to develop insights from research that inform product development
• 2+ years working in a User Research role

Best vs. Average – The best candidate has experience working with designers or has done mobile app design themselves. Experience working with software developers is also a plus! Demonstrated experience with Accessibility standards and guidelines (examples: 508, 255, CVAA, EN 301 549, WCAG) or certification in Accessibility (examples: Trusted Tester, CPACC) is a huge plus!
