Underground Mine Superintendent Jobs

Fortis Mining Engineering & Manufacturing is currently recruiting for experienced Underground Mine Superintendent to join our team on a unique and exciting project in B.C. As a Superintendent, you will play a significant part in the success of the Underground project by directly managing the execution of field operations. The Underground Superintendent is responsible for managing a variety of tasks that include, but not limited to: drilling with jackleg and stoper, operation of single boom jumbo drill and scoops, installation of steel sets, spiling and grout, as well as operation of a road header rehab miner and shotcreting. The Superintendent will lead by example and adhere to company and mine site health and safety standards and policies along with always following safe work practices.

This Safety Sensitive position is conditional to completing and passing a Drug & Alcohol test.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor quality standards and ensure that technical specifications are being met. Ensure inspections are scheduled appropriately
• Advise management of potential problems, safety issues, schedule difficulties, etc. Assist in resolving such problems as required
• Form and lead effective, safety focused crews performing mining and operation functions
• Lead daily field operations for conventional tunneling, drilling, blasting and shotcrete work
• Assist in preparing work plans and scheduling to determine manpower levels, material quantities, and equipment requirements
• Monitor job safety and provide job safety training and awareness for all personnel
• Travel to remote site and work underground
• Examine/ inspect field conditions, troubleshoot problems, correct inaccuracies, and implement cost saving measures

Qualifications

The ideal candidate must possess:

• Must have your BC Underground Blasting Certificate or ability to obtain one before starting the project
• Valid Driver's License
• Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communications skills
• Experience working in a team setting and directing/reviewing the work of others
• Basic computer skills to submit daily reports and communicate through emails
• Minimum 1 year of underground experience
• Must have experience in Underground Drilling and Blasting
• Minimum Grade 12 or equivalent
• Must have your B Underground Shiftboss Certificate or ability to obtain one before starting the project
• The physical ability to freely access all points of a mine site in wide-ranging climates and environmental conditions and move objects up to 30 pounds
• Minimum 10+ years of leadership experience in underground mining, working to contract plans, specifications, applicable codes and jurisdictional requirements
