Truss Designer Jobs

Edmonton Roof Truss is currently seeking an experienced truss designer. Prior experience in designing and engineering residential roof trusses is a requirement. Knowledge of MiTek Sapphire software is an asset however not required. The successful candidate must have strong technical skills related to Structural design, Blueprint reading, and computer operation.

Duties of this position include:

· Produce floor joist and roof truss plans, layouts, truss design drawings, and truss quotes and ability to understand blueprints and customer requirements for specific projects.

· Communicate with sales staff and customers on technical aspects of plans which require clarification. Make suggestions for solutions to plan challenges or if comfortable with the customer, make changes as per customer specs and communicate this to all parties.

· Determine design specifications based on blueprints and structural design needs.

· Consult with peers and other allied professionals such as Engineers and Architects when more in-depth analysis is required

· Review project design and drive accurate releases to production and logistics.

· Record and expedite repairs or corrections and follow up to implement corrective actions.

· Review other designer's work as part of a check system to reduce design errors prior to submitting paperwork to manufacturing.

· Site inspections when required for troubleshooting or repairs.

Qualifications:

· Post-Secondary diploma in Construction Engineering Technology, or related technology program.

· Superior knowledge of computer design software (AutoCAD, MiTek Saffire, I struct)

· Strong problem-solving skills to resolve incomplete, ambiguous project requirements, errors, or omissions within blueprints.

· Strong oral and written communication skills in English are required for this position

· Advanced blueprint (architecture, structural, and mechanical) reading skills.

· Comprehensive knowledge of rough framing and the construction process.

· Command of local and national building codes, structural analysis, and structural engineering, communicate and enforce adherence.

· Advanced knowledge in the application of building components and connections of floor and roof systems and in the application of floor (I-joist and LVL), roof and floor (truss) systems, and tall walls.

· Advanced knowledge and skills in designing floor and roof trusses, I-joist, LVL, and beams, and familiar with EWP (Engineered Wood products).
