Job Description

Primary Role of This Position


In this role, the Transportation Manager – Network is responsible for ensuring that all dedicated carriers are efficiently utilized and that deliveries are made on time and within budget.

The Transportation Manager – Network shall ensure operations are compliant with applicable GMP standards as defined by GUI-0001 “Good Manufacturing Practices” and GUI-0069 “Guidelines for environmental control of drugs during storage and transportation”.


Major Responsibilities


+ Ensure proactive training, planning, and monitoring which results in an efficient utilization of the dedicated carriers.

+ Maintain consistent oversight to service levels and issues involving the dedicated carriers and provide escalated service to maintain service levels.

+ Oversee GMP requirements for dedicated carriers, working closely with the Regulatory team.

+ Ensure that guidelines and procedures are in place and implemented for transportation conditions such as temperature, humidity, lighting controls, sanitation, and any other precautions necessary to maintain the quality and safe distribution of our product as per GUI-0069 Guidelines for environmental control of drugs during storage and transportation.

+ Manage the required training records, update and modify as required to meet changing requirements. Review training methods (in person vs. remote) for conducting training and to assess effectiveness.

+ Assess the network needs and manage/develop carriers whenever the needs of the business require a change or optimization in route scheduling.

+ Adjust route plans to accommodate the changing needs of the business.

+ Source and onboard new dedicated carriers as required.

+ Plan for and manage rate negotiations for the carrier routes.

+ Provide oversight and approve invoices related to the network carriers to ensure the accuracy of the transportation charges.

+ Develop, implement, and report performance KPIs for dedicated carriers.

+ Act as the primary contact with assigned carriers on all service, regulatory and contractual matters.

+ Regular communication with dedicated carriers.

+ Work closely with all Kohl & Frisch Distribution Centre shipping teams to ensure accurate and efficient on-time departures and to ensure that all SOPs are in place and effective.

+ Escalate all necessary transportation issues to the affected internal and external stakeholders.

+ Lead the identification of opportunities to improve service levels and to drive efficiencies and work with the team to implement the necessary changes.

+ Provide solutions to customer transportation requests.

+ Participate in transportation initiatives/projects as required.


Education and Experience


+ University degree or community college diploma and a professional designation CITT

+ 5 to 10 years’ experience in transportation with a focus on working with carriers and drivers

+ Minimum 3 years’ experience working in a leadership capacity managing others.

+ Excellent working knowledge of MS Office, fuel surcharge modelling, Transportation Costing (LTL, FTL and Courier) AS400, JBA and Log Pro TMS is a strong asset.


Qualifications


+ Excellent knowledge of the Transportation Management System functionality

+ Sound knowledge and understanding of the shipping document control and invoicing process at the Kohl & Frisch Distribution Centres

+ Well-developed planning skills

+ Appropriate communication and interpersonal skills

+ Excellent geographical knowledge of southern Ontario as well as all major centres in Canada
