Job Summary


Resumes are being accepted for the position of Transportation Engineering Data Analyst within the Engineering and Transportation Services Department. As the City pursues their Vision Zero road safety goals, the data analyst will have an exciting opportunity to showcase their analytical and storytelling skills to demonstrate network improvements over time. Reporting to the Road Safety Supervisor, the Transportation Engineering Data Analyst will be responsible for developing a comprehensive data collection and analysis strategy related to transportation in alignment with the City’s long terms goals and vision. The successful candidate will collect, analyze and make recommendations for changes in the road, cycling and pedestrian network to improve safety, connectivity and flow. Guided by the goals and objectives of the City of Guelph Corporate Strategic Plan and committed to the Corporate Values of integrity, service, inclusion, wellness and learning, the candidate will aid in the achievement of the Community Vision for an inclusive, connected, prosperous city.


Hours of Work


35 hours per week Monday to Friday between the hours of 8:30 am and 4:30 pm.


Your Role


  • Prepare and lead presentations on transportation data to internal and external stakeholder groups, management, and council.
  • Assist in review of development applications and impacts to the road network
  • Develop and update as required a data collection strategy for the City related to all transportation users
  • Provide reports to internal partners and the public (where appropriate) of road user data
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other City staff and the public using principles of good customer service.
  • Track expenses related to the data collection budget
  • Evaluate interventions using data, performing before and after studies as appropriate (e.g. speed limit reduction effectiveness)
  • Facilitate and lead workshops and meetings with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining a real-time database to be shared on the city’s website
  • Develop and prepare a variety of written documents, including technical reports, staff reports, work plans, business cases, and terms of reference.
  • Monitor the city’s permanent data collection (MioVision) installations and maintain a database of historical data, monitor reports and identify opportunities for improvement in signal timing efficiency
  • Monitor industry trends to recommend options for data collection technologies
  • Analyze the collection of data related to all transportation users (vehicles, cyclists, pedestrians) and vet incoming third-party data for accuracy
  • Provide data analysis summaries for annual collision reports
  • Report on trends, key performance indicators, update dashboards and identify opportunities for improvements in the transportation network including network screening and safety performance functions
  • Monitor the city’s computerized traffic signal system reporting functions to maximize network efficiency


Qualifications


  • Must possess excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with a range of stakeholders on a variety of issues.
  • Knowledge of and relevant working experience with Geographic Information Systems (ArcGIS), Transportation Engineering Software (TES), Maxtime signal system, Synchro, MioVision and database application development and PowerBI would be considered an asset.
  • Must possess a valid ‘G” drivers licence with a good driving record. Successful candidates will be required to provide a current driver’s abstract prior to their start date to confirm their licence is held in good standing and that it has not been suspended or revoked under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) or Criminal Code of Canada in the last 5 years. The City of Guelph will take into consideration the number of demerit points and/or nature of the infractions to determine if it meets our requirements.
  • Demonstrated skills working with multi-disciplinary teams.
  • A P.Eng., C.E.T., or Road Safety Professional (RSP1 or RSP2) designation would be considered an asset
  • Experience related to the duties listed above normally acquired through post-secondary education in Geographic Information Systems, Urban Planning, Civil or Transportation Engineering, Public Health, or a related discipline, and experience in transportation data collection and analysis. Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

$70,957.20- $88,696.50
