Job Description

Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto’s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster and easier. Our Corridor Maintenance, Track Infrastructure office is seeking a Track Specialist to plan and monitor all railway corridor related engineering track rehabilitation and maintenance services, and perform rail and structures asset inventories in order to ensure the safe and reliable delivery of contract railway operations
What will I be doing?
  • Establish, within regulatory guidelines, the priority, inspection frequency, and condition audit reporting of program maintenance and plant renewal implementation.
  • Administer track construction and rehabilitation for programmed maintenance and expansion
  • Ensure full contractor compliance with contractual agreement terms and conditions governing the delivery of railway corridor engineering services.
  • Perform field audits and track inspection services on Metrolinx owned and operated railway corridors.
  • Ensure compliance of third-party regulatory inspections and associated maintenance or rehabilitation to rail infrastructure
  • Thoroughly document systemic track quality indexes and provide direct oversight for the performance and improvement of track geometry and ultrasonic rail defects
  • Liaise with regulatory entities to ensure full compliance with prevailing safety regulatory policies, best practices, and recommended methods
What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?
  • Must successfully complete training/certification in the following: Canadian Rail Operating Rules (CROR) and Track Inspection Guidelines (TIG)
  • Completion of diploma or trade certification with apprenticeship in a related field, or a combination of education, training, and experience deemed equivalent.
  • Valid, non-probationary “G” Class Province of Ontario driver’s license. A “DZ” license is considered an asset.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Comprehensive knowledge of track, bridge structures, construction and maintenance including identification of deficiencies
  • Minimum four (4) years of experience planning and monitoring railway corridor engineering track and structural rehabilitation services. Experience in a heavy rail environment in North America, is an asset.
Note
  • Work conditions involve walking through difficult terrain, in various weather conditions
  • You may be required to work variable hours/shifts which may include statutory holidays, weekends, and overnight hours to support various work programs and inspection schedules.
  • This position will also be required to be on-call and be able to physically respond to incidents at various hours of the day.
