Job Description

PROFILE SUMMARY


The Tooling Manager of GN Corporations Inc. (GN) will lead a team of tooling specialists and is responsible for all aspects of tools and equipment management and tool management systems, which includes new and current process developments, tool inventory, tool selection, ongoing tools and equipment requirements, tool presetting, Pre-Production and Post-Production meetings. They will Work closely with GN management team to achieve “The Manufacturing Solution” and leading GN to industry 4.0.


Specific Functions


As part of the Programs team, the Tooling Manager will interact with a variety of Supervisors and employees from varying departments within the organization. GN’s Tooling Manager position profile includes, but is not limited to, the following:


Managerial Duties


· Develop, drive, and manage current and future tool management systems (TDM, PPG, EDGE Pro, CSI) and other applicable software

· Develop, drive, and manage the Tooling Department operations.

· Develop tooling budget for the entire organization

· Supervise, mentor and train subordinates and tooling specialists This will also include involvement with the Human Resources department to assist with the development of the team and recruitment when required

· Communicate with supervisors, engineers, production control, quality, and additional GN employees for assignments as required and to resolve machining or quality issues

· Be a part of, and promote team atmosphere

· As a Manager it is required that the position leads by example in line with GN’s Vision, Mission and Culture


Technical Duties:


· Review customer inquiries, specifications, and drawings to determine the scope of work and required contents to estimate

· Advise GN team about the manufacturing processes and the most cost-effective ways to manufacture products

· Provide support on projects details to the Director, Programs, Programs Team, and Operations Teams

· Attend pre-production and post-production meetings, as well as product manufacturing on the shop floor regularly to evaluate previously provided proposals and recognize the impact on the company’s performance

· Develop strong working relationships with outsource suppliers, peers[DD1] , and internal customers such as Programs, Applications, Planning, Quality, Supply Chain and Operations teams

· Support and contribute to business development goals

· Train and guide resources as needed

· Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional and technical societies

· Providing Tooling requirements to the Programs and Operations teams

· Continually research new developments of technology.

· Assist Applications team and the operations team to determine tool life and optimum machining conditions

· Assisting with PFMEA when required

· Collaborate with Tool Suppliers, Supply Chain and Operations to propose new tools.

  • Participate actively in training, operational improvement teams, preventative and corrective actions and identifying non-conformities

Responsible to avoid adversely affecting the health and safety of others through any act or omission which may include:
  • Quality Management System – Understand and apply GN Corporations Inc. Quality system requirements, including customer requirements and legal requirements:
  • Responsible for the correct use of protective clothing and equipment, provided by GN Corporations Inc. and for guarding against misuse or damage to such equipment
  • Understand and apply GN Corporations Inc. policy for its commitment to quality
  • Understanding, identifying, and applying applicable procedures.


o Responsible for reporting any hazardous situations arising in the workplace that cannot be self-corrected, or injury incurred during work, no matter how minor

o Responsible for avoiding injury resulting from manual handling tasks associated with their employment, by use of risk assessment, correct mechanical handling equipment and appropriate manual handling techniques.


  • Industry Standards and Regulations – Be familiar with all relevant industry standards, recommended practices and regulations. Monitor self-compliance with company, industry, environment, and government requirements as well as promote their acceptance in all aspects of company business.


  • Other responsibilities as assigned


Minimum Job Qualifications:


· A Bachelor’s / Master’s degree in Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineering

  • Experience with Six Sigma process improvement projects (Six Sigma certification is an asset)
  • TDM Advanced level accreditation (Virtual Academy) is an asset
  • Experience in CAD/CAM (SolidWorks, PDM, Esprit)
  • Basic understanding of ISO 9001, AS9100D, IATF 16949 is advantageous
  • Experience of creating, developing, and managing database systems
  • 5 years in a leadership role
  • 5-10 years' experience in CNC machine tools manufacturing environment
  • Experience in Microsoft Office tools
