We are currently looking for a Talent Acquisition Specialist, based out of St. Thomas, ON


Our mission has started. Volkswagen Group’s largest cell factory in St. Thomas will carry out all battery activities – from processing raw materials to developing a unified Volkswagen battery to managing the European and North American gigafactories. Headquartered in Salzgitter, Germany, we are experiencing the transformation of mobility up close. Our goal is to contribute a positive impact to our global society, the environment and the economy. To reach these goals we need your POWER!


For the ramp-up phase of our North American operations, we are looking for a passionate Talent Acquisition professional who wants to CELLebrate in fast-paced and fast-changing environments. Reporting to the Chief Human Resources Officer of Volkswagen Group Canada, you will also work closely with our PowerCoSE Headquarters in Germany as well as colleagues from the Volkswagen Group Canada (VGCA) in Ajax, ON to recruit and acquire top talent. The role will be based out of St. Thomas, ON and you will be tasked with sourcing and recruiting all roles required for this start-up journey that will serve as the cornerstone for the development of our North American battery plant.

**This is a flex hybrid model, requiring 2 days office**


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Use metrics to create reports and identify areas of improvement (KPIs).
  • Perform all hiring and initial onboarding activities, including issuance of employment contracts, ensuring proper onboarding, as well as facilitating new hire orientation.
  • Take steps to ensure positive candidate experience.
  • Develop interview guides and process respective to given roles.
  • Lead employment branding initiatives.
  • Local partnerships, schools, community presence, social media, networking, etc.
  • Assist in employee retention and development activities.
  • Work with PowerCo SE and VGCA to develop talent acquisition strategies and hiring plans.
  • Organize and/or attend career fairs, assessment centers or other events as needed.
  • Work in close alignment with hiring managers to pre-select candidates and communicate accordingly with them via Applicant Tracking System.
  • Plan and conduct recruitment and selection processes (interviews, screening calls etc.).
  • Perform other duties as assigned or as pertinent for the function and operation.
  • Perform sourcing to fill open positions and anticipate future needs.


Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of relevant employment laws in Canada
  • 5+ years of relevant full-cycle recruiting experience
  • Influencing and negotiation skills
  • Computer savvy
  • Problem solving and analytical skills
  • Solid experience with people, process, systems, and culture development
  • CHRP is strongly desired
  • Ability to align organizational needs with solutions; manage client solutions and maintain collaboration under challenging conditions
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Human Resources, Psychology or similar field preferred
  • Experience in the automotive or advanced manufacturing industries strongly desired
  • Experience with Success Factors is considered an asset.
  • Strong customer focus and interpersonal skills

  • Integration - joining people, processes or systems
  • Experience with start-ups strongly desired
  • Overtime may be required to meet ramp-up deadlines
  • Occasional travel to Ajax, ON as needed during ramp-up. Travel to job fairs, events and conferences. Occasional international travel to HQ in Germany (total travel up to ~30%)
  • Conceptual thinking skills

Desired skills:

  • Skilled in planning, strategic partnering, relationship management, collaboration, building trust, and service delivery
  • Strong change leadership and project management experience
  • Proven success collaborating with senior business leaders and adding value through the delivery of HR solutions that improve workforce capability and organizational performance while protecting the interests of the Company.
  • German language skills are considered an asset
