Our Thunder Bay location in Ontario, Canada is currently seeking talent to fill the position of Superintendent, Water Quality. This job is permanent, full-time.
Superintendent, Water Quality – Thunder Bay Mill Operations
We are seeking a talented individual to join our Thunder Bay Operations team.
Located on the shores of Lake Superior, Thunder Bay is a four-season outdoor paradise and is the region’s commercial, administrative, medical and transportation hub, providing the amenities of an urban center while opening the gateway to outdoor adventure in North-western Ontario.
Your Challenges
The Water Quality Superintendent will be responsible to lead and coordinate the operation of the water intake and effluent treatment systems that service a Pulp and Paper facility. This includes a biological secondary effluent treatment system. You will also be responsible to manage the area focusing on safety, environmental, productivity, quality, costs, and efficiency.
Your Primary Responsibilities Will Include The Following

• Oversee operations of incoming and outgoing water to keep site in compliance with pertinent regulations.
• The candidate will participate in the monthly operational / budget review process and will maintain an active and open dialogue with the unions to promote the safe work practices, product and equipment ownership, and continuous improvement within the department.
• The Water Quality Superintendent will use their strong team building and leadership skills and successfully and safely achieve performance targets.
• Maintain and improve quality, efficiency and capital upgrades.
• Develop, coordinate and implement training programs for the department.

Your Team
Reporting to the Manufacturing Services Manager, you will be part of a results-oriented team whose members are encouraged to exceed expectations.
Your Profile

• The ideal candidate would possess an excellent working knowledge of the pulp and paper making process with superior troubleshooting and leadership abilities.
• Mechanical, chemical, or process engineering degree preferred, coupled with at least 3 years of Water treatment and/or Effluent treatment experience within a unionized environment.
• Candidates with the required experience but without an engineering degree will be considered.

• Demonstrated ability to balance priorities that meet short and long-term objectives; uses organized and efficient work methods.
• Good communication skills with excellent strategic thinking skills
• The ideal candidate will possess the drive and passion to continuously improve upon the health and safety, efficiency, production and cost targets for the department.
• Excellent interpersonal skills required, including an ability to work collaboratively within a fast paced and structured environment
• Proficient analytical skills required as well as a strong background in MS Office, Outlook and SAP.
