Job Description
What You Will Do


Gannett Fleming’s Toronto, Canada is looking for a Project Engineer – Municipal focusing on water and wastewater with a strong civil background to support planning, design, and construction oversight for a variety of projects.


As Municipal Project Engineer you will be responsible for supporting several tasks/contracts with local clients including the MTO, Metrolinx, and Municipal clients.


The successful candidate will be expected to provide concept and detailed designs in accordance with applicable project, client, and third-party stakeholder standards/guidelines to ensure high quality technical services are provided to clients. In this position, you'll engage with a spirited utilities team and our valued clients within a vibrant, fast-paced project environment.


Additional Responsibilities


  • Prepare, submit and manage respective permits to support the municipal works.
  • Develop and validate cost estimates for municipal/provincial projects.
  • Be a catalyst in utility relocations or installations involving water and sewers
  • Preparation of drainage area plans, capacity assessment and supporting design calculations.
  • Creation of tenders for construction including the coordination and preparation of all necessary documentation (technical specifications, pricing, and project timeline).
  • Engage with diverse teams to shape holistic project designs that meet stringent design and construction standards.
  • Develop feasibility, functional design studies, technical memos and other documents as assigned.
  • Production of water and/or wastewater preliminary concept and detailed design.
  • Extensive coordination amongst multi-disciplinary teams, client and external stakeholders through regular communications, meetings/workshops, driving the future of design and constructability


Education | Experience:


Minimum Qualifications


  • Experience in planning, design and permitting would be desirable
  • Experience in providing technical leadership to staff-level or junior engineers.
  • B.S. in Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, Water Resources Engineering, or related field of practice is required. Master’s Degree is a plus.
  • A strong background using Civil3D/MicroStation and/or Auto CAD is required. Experience using ArcGIS and Bentley-related modeling programs is a plus.
  • 5-10 years’ experience in civil site design, with direct involvement in watermains and sewers, stormwater management design, hydrologic/hydraulic modeling, permitting and BMPs.
  • Professional Engineer license in Ontario, P.Eng. is required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills, strong project financial management skills with ability to build rapport.
  • Established contacts and knowledge of the regulatory environment and approvals process.
  • In-depth understanding of contract administration services and requirements.
