Ontario Line South
Our team is mobilizing its design and construction crews, with major works to commence in 2023. The South Civil contract is anticipated to be completed in 2030.
The project will strengthen Ontario’s economy by supporting an estimated 1,500 jobs at the peak of construction.
What is the project?
  • A six-kilometre tunnel and associated tunnelling works from Exhibition to Don Yard portal (west of the Don River)
  • Four new underground stations (King/Bathurst, Queen/Spadina, Moss Park, Corktown.
  • Stations:
  • Two underground stations to be integrated with the existing TTC Osgoode and Queen subway stations
  • One above-ground station to be integrated with the existing GO Transit Exhibition Station

A Structures Design Engineer oversees the structural design part of the overall design, with regards to both new and existing structures (retrofit, rehabilitation, modification, interaction between new and existing structures), of different typologies depending on the construction materials (concrete, steel) or their specific configuration (at grade, underground). They are responsible for ensuring the timely production and delivery of all the construction design documents (such as drawings and reports) related to structures for client approval and subsequent implementation in the works.
  • Propose changes to the structures, pursuing cost and constructability optimization and risk mitigation
  • Review structural drawings and reports
  • Oversee, monitor, and review the design work performed by the external consultant companies contracted by OTG to perform the design, providing them guidance as required to meet the criteria of OTG and the requirements of the client
  • Perform various leadership activities, including mentorship and guidance of junior employees
  • Coordinate with other teams, such as construction and utilities, and with other design discipline teams such as architecture, drainage, mechanical and electrical, addressing any potential conflicts in the most beneficial way for the project as a whole
  • Supervise work through planning and scheduling work activities of the team
  • Supervise and control the work of other supervisory, professional, or managerial employees
  • Collaborate with several other senior-level and professional managerial employees
  • Work with the client with regards to structural designs as well as providing advice and assessment about engineering issues or structural options
Qualifications
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in at least one Province in Canada, or the ability to obtain registration in Ontario within 6 months.
  • Demonstrated qualities of leadership and hard work.
  • Knowledge and experience with Autodesk software (Civil 3D, Autocad, Revit, Autodesk Construction Cloud or BIM360), and other applicable common software in the field of transportation engineering.
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction documents, drawings, and specifications.
  • Masters degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Engineering
  • Minimum of 10 years of professional experience in the detailed design of structures and civil infrastructure projects (plan production and specifications).
  • Sound knowledge on structural design, and previous experience leading structural design teams or external consultants required.
  • Must possess strong attention to detail and can work in a fast-paced environment; eagerness to learn and apply engineering skills to develop creative problem-solving designs/ideas.
  • Strong commitment to high standards, integrity, and ethics.
