Job Description

Boge & Boge is an engineering consultancy specializing in a full range of engineering, construction, design-build, consultant and project management services.

They are seeking an experienced Senior Structural Design Engineer & Project Manager to join their dynamic team. The successful candidate will play a key role in leading and managing complex projects and ensuring the structural integrity and safety of various structures. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the design and development of various industrial projects.

Responsibilities (What your day will look like):

  • Work alongside 4 structural drafters and two structural engineers.
  • Developing and maintaining positive, sustainable client relationships.
  • Reviewing project documents prior to issue including coordination and technical check, drawing standard conformance, shop dwg review, scope and presentation.
  • Write scoping, pre-feasibility and feasibility studies and provide input on and/or submit proposals/bids and generate technical reports.Review and generate general notes for structural projects.
  • Assist in design build construction.
  • Business travel out of town approximately 3 days per month, upon request of management and scope of project.
  • Providing lead structural design and technical support including concept design, calculations, connection design, field investigations, and solutions for the construction or repair of industrial facilities.
  • Contribution to the career development of more junior staff, including technical direction, training recommendations, coaching and mentoring
  • Willing to conduct site inspections and provide condition assessment reports.
  • Writing specifications and reviewing contract documents.
  • Coordinating and working with project team members including other in-house disciplines and subcontracted services.
  • Report to the Operations manager as well as president and coordinate with other department heads including financial, mechanical engineering and construction services.

What you will need to succeed:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Broad scope knowledge of civil designs and an understanding of industry codes, standards, and Canadian construction methods. Familiarity with the latest version of the National Building Code of Canada is required
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience in commercial construction including warehouse and multi-unit residential work is beneficial.
  • Demonstrated abilities in the leadership of multidisciplinary projects and teams
  • Experience working on mining and/or heavy industrial projects is an asset
  • Able to work in design-build and EPCM contract format.
  • Structural steel detailing, connection design and construction experience is an asset.
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of progressive professional experience.
  • Exceptional abilities in project management skills including familiarity with Microsoft Project
  • Experience preparing Engineering estimates and managing a construction Budget is an asset
  • Undergraduate or Graduate Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university specializing in structures. A graduate degree with an emphasis in structural engineering would be considered an asset.
  • Registered (or eligible for registration) as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba (EGM). Other provinces including Alberta and Saskatchewan are an asset.
  • Material design experience, including the use of structural steel, reinforced concrete, masonry, wood and cladding systems. Familiar with Canadian Standards for these materials.
