The Opportunity:

WSP is currently seeking an ambitious, dynamic, and innovative Engineer to join our Structural Engineering Group, located at either our Toronto or Markham office. Reporting to a Senior Project Manager in the Structural Engineering buildings group, this position will be responsible for working with multi-disciplinary teams to take innovative design solutions from proposals through to constructed projects for clients in a wide variety of Sectors.

A day in the life:

• Advance the notion of computational design and leverage interactions between graphical and analytical structural models;
• Oversee the execution of efficient and accurate project deliverables to high standards;
• Collaborate with other WSP Canada offices and support national practice initiatives;
• Complete engineering assessments and write technical reports;
• Manage and coordinate projects with clients, architects and other disciplines as necessary;
• Potential full or part-time offsite work as a representative of WSP with important clients;
• Review shop drawings, answer RFI’s and provide other construction administration activities;
• Oversee the preparation of construction drawings, and specifications, and ensure quality adherence;
• Show a proactive approach to diversity, equity, and inclusion;
• Leverage existing networks and develop new relationships to support and advance the winning of work;
• Perform engineering calculations for the design and assessment of steel, concrete, timber and masonry structures;
• Manage time spent on design tasks to meet established project-specific workplans;
• Occasional travel within Canada on occasion for site assessments and site support;
• Leverage the use of advanced finite element modelling tools in design and analysis activities;
• Attend site meetings and review construction for general conformance;
• Other duties as assigned/required.

We'd love to hear from you if you have...

• Strength in the following software – Etabs, SAP2000, SAFE, and/ or RAM Structural system is an asset;
• Design experience should be buildings focused and should include some or all of the following: institutional (schools, data centres, prisons), commercial (offices, retail stores, retail, high-rise), residential (low, mid or high-rise condominiums or apartments), transportation (maintenance facilities, transit facilities), health care (hospitals, laboratories, long-term care), and light industrial (low-rise warehouses, distribution centres);
• Have a general working knowledge of other building design disciplines;
• Intimate knowledge of both the OBC and NBC
• Dedicated team player with strong people skills, empathetic mindset and is client focused.
• Proficiency in Revit would be considered beneficial;
• Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Structural Engineering
• Seismic analysis and design experience is an asset;
• Display a value adding attitude through dynamic, innovative, pro-active and disruptive thinking within a solution driven environment;
• 6-10 years’ experience in Structural Engineering
• Have excellent written and verbal communication skills;
• Computational design skills, with familiarity with Dynamo, Grasshopper, and / or other coding languages considered a beneficial;
• Registered Professional Engineer with the PEO
