Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto’s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster and easier. Our Office of the Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) and Strategic Talent Management team are looking for two (2) Strategic Advisors to provide executive support to Senior Leadership by advising and recommending actions on a variety of topics related to policy, programs, and communications as well as coordinating special projects.
What will I be doing?
  • Support the coordination and development of materials for internal briefings as well as Executive correspondence
  • Work collaboratively with members of the Senior HR Leadership Team and staff on policy, projects and contentious or emerging issues; provides subject matter expertise and advice to assist with planning to ensure successful outcomes
  • Manage the development and flow of useful, timely and accurate information between the business unit and a broad range of internal stakeholders
  • Interact and/or work with cross functional teams, the CEO’s office, and key stakeholders to coordinate information requests, develop progress updates, manage distribution of information while utilizing influencing skills to achieve desired outcomes
  • Handle complex situations and multiple responsibilities independently to support the executive agenda; identifies emerging issues and urgency of immediate demands; mediates and resolves conflicts associated with issues, ongoing work, and between competing projects
  • Resolve issues and keep the executive member informed of issues and results
  • Develop and maintains a strong network with various stakeholders to coordinate projects, set priorities and deadlines, exchange technical information as well as share best practice.
  • Write speeches, prepares presentations, compiles awards submissions, and adds content to communications products and web site
  • Serve as main liaison with CHRO’s Office on divisional matters.
What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?
  • Experience with change management initiatives, strategic issues management, planning techniques, and methods and practices to develop communication plans.
  • Interpersonal, analytical and problem-solving skills, political acuity, initiative, tact and diplomacy skills to manage the identification and response to contentious and time sensitive issues/problems pertaining to media relations, issues management, public announcements and crisis communications activities.
  • Completion of a degree in Human Resources, Communications, Business Administration, or a related field or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent.
  • Interpersonal and oral/written/presentation communication skills to develop and implement communication plans and materials and respond to communications and media relations issues.
  • Ability to build constructive and effective relationships, and work collaboratively with colleagues and stakeholders to build consensus or influence decisions.
  • Demonstrated progressive experience providing strategic communications and/or issues advice to senior executives in the public or private sector, demonstrated experience in crisis and emergency response planning, response and management.
  • Ability to work in fast paced and cross functional environment and understand a variety of issues, government communications process and privacy laws and provision in sharing personal/confidential/sensitive information.
  • Project management experience to track, coordinate, manage, and monitor simultaneous projects and monitor project performance results.
