Reporting to the Area Site Manager, the Chief Power Engineer/Site Supervisor will have broad responsibilities in supporting the Area Site Manager as part of the local Leadership Team and supporting all aspects of the day-to-day operation of the Scotford team and equipment. The individual will be responsible to lead a team of 10 Plant Operators. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to gain technical proficiency in order to provide backup for the other Site Supervisors and Site Manager. A primary function will be to interact regularly and effectively with the customers, contractors, and site Process Engineer, build strong relationships with customers and contractors, and find opportunities to improve the efficiency of the plant so as to increase opportunities to supply additional products. The Site Supervisor will work closely with the business area in this capacity.


Reporting directly to the position are Plant Operators and 1 Admin Assistant.


Job Duties


  • Implement Best Practices designed to produce optimal distribution of products.
  • Ensure compliance with ABSA regulations and provide mandatory training according to APCL procedures & policies and Alberta governmental regulations (Dangerous Goods, environmental, etc…).
  • Work with HYCO PROS (Project Resources & Outage Services) group for Projects and Turnaround Planning.
  • Achieving environmental compliance targets.
  • Supervise regular scheduling activities & special projects, and act to remedy any difficulties.
  • Maintain strong relationship with customer.
  • Approve and ensure weekly pay data is entered into ADP system for processing.
  • Work daily with Alberta Account Manager on customer requirements.
  • Handle plant budget.
  • Support of all aspects of the day-to-day operation, including supervising operators
  • Ensure high safety record achieved according to Safety performance and safety management as well as process safety management
  • Participate and give feedback to the local Joint Health and Safety Committee.
  • Ensure smooth running of the operation activities as it relates to managing staff, equipment, contractors, etc…
  • Ensure that every employee participate in the Air Products BSP (Basic Safety Program).
  • Provide support to Alberta pipeline system.


Minimum Qualifications


  • The successful candidate will fulfill the regulatory designation of Chief Power Engineer for the Scotford HyCO facility.
  • A track record of success on Safety, Environmental, Quality and Employee Involvement
  • Ability to promote respect and teamwork in the workplace
  • A strong commitment to employee involvement, team building and diversity/inclusion.
  • Demonstrated commitment to EH&S with a track record of success on Safety, Environmental protection, Quality, Regulation compliance and employee involvement.
  • Ability to build and maintain the working relationships with our customers and suppliers at the operating level
  • Maintenance experience an asset
  • A performance history of driving continuous improvement.
  • The successful candidate will be required to complete the Management Fundamentals Program coordinated through Air Products University
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Computer literacy, MS Office platform and knowledge of SAP.
  • A self-starter with proven leadership abilities
  • Alberta 1st Class Power Engineering Certification with 5+ years experience in pant operations including supervisory.
  • Ability to effectively interface with support groups.
  • Able to travel across Canada and U.S.A, if required
