The Journeyman Millwright safety and efficiently within their scope of expertise repairs, maintains, installs, troubleshoots, and upgrades the machinery, mechanical equipment, building services and facility infrastructure in accordance with all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and permitting requirements while achieving target KPIs for all Veolia contracted facilities within the City of Edmonton Waste Management Centre (EWMC). KPIs include safety, productivity, and quality of work performed. The incumbent may be requested to mentor and train an assigned Apprentice(s) as well as oversee work performed by any Maintenance Technicians assisting with a work order. Incumbent is required to perform duties as detailed within daily schedules and is required to work a rotating 12 hour Day/Night shift pattern. The Journeyman Millwright is required to perform Safety Sensitive duties and responsibilities.


This position operates within a COR certified plant environment (which is a requirement of our Contract) and is required to comply with all regulatory requirements and the Client’s Environmental Management System.


The processing equipment within some of the facilities maintained has the potential to operate up to 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.


Key Responsibilities


The duties of the Journeyman Millwright are as follows, but not limited to:
  • Quality Control(Re-work, Quality of work)
  • Safety (Lost Time Accidents, Incidents, PPE Compliance, Permit Compliance)
  • Completes any other duties as assigned.
  • Promotes a quality first work ethic and attitude to provide a service of the highest standard achievable.
  • Manages assigned tasks/projects within scope of responsibility so all KPIs are achieved, including but not limited to safety, productivity, and product quality. KPIs will be measured by:
  • As assigned, maintains plant machinery, process equipment and all other mechanical services throughout the facilities.
  • Works assigned shifts as scheduled. May be required to work authorized overtime to cover for colleagues absence and maintain facility production.
  • Proactively promotes through example a safe work ethic, attitude, and workplace. Complies with all safety policies, standards, and procedures to achieve a safe work environment and safety for all staff and visitors as well as the Company’s, Client’s and Regulatory Agencies safe work objectives and requirements.
  • Troubleshoots mechanical problems with plant machinery and equipment and repair as necessary.
  • Safely operates City & Company owned, leased, managed, or rented vehicles and/or mobile equipment. Incumbent is required to perform Safety Sensitive duties and responsibilities.
  • Understands, complies with, and is accountable for adherence to COR quality standards in all activities.
  • Productivity (Total Worked Hours vs Actual Work Order Accountable Hours)
  • Maintains confidentiality to comply with all regulatory requirements and Company Privacy and Confidentiality policies and procedures.
  • As assigned, carries out regular PMs on the above mentioned equipment including cleaning.
  • Supports other initiatives of the Plant to promote a healthy and positive work environment and enhance employee morale and engagement.
  • Work Order Hours (Estimated Time vs Actual Time)
  • Maintains effective working relationships and communications with peers, management, staff of other company departments, and client representatives. Effectively resolves any conflicts in a timely manner to achieve positive and healthy working relationships and workplace environment.
  • Understands and promotes the Company’s, the Division’s, the Plant’s, and the Department’s mission statement, values, and strategic goals.


Work Order Related Responsibilities


  • Immediately informs Supervisor/Shift Lead of any immediate and potential problems or anything out of the norm whether mechanical, electrical, controls, production or equipment damage, and especially when relating to possible production down time.
  • Obtains assigned Work Orders from Supervisor/Shift Lead and reviews with them to ensure understanding.
  • Inputs data into SAP to create new Work Orders, whether mechanical, electrical or other trade.
  • Tests repaired equipment for proper performance to assess that completed work meets requirements and specifications. Cleans up work area. Advises Supervisor/Shift Lead immediately upon job completion.
  • Diagnoses the source of any faults and malfunctions.
  • Interprets Work Orders and technical manuals as required.
  • Obtains any required permits (i.e. Safe Work Plans, Lock Out Tag Out, Hot Work, Confined Space, etc).
  • Performs work within their area of expertise as noted on Work Order in a safe and efficient manner to achieve KPIs. Repairs or replaces defective parts, components, or systems with accuracy and efficiency in accordance with SOP and manufacturer’s specifications. Completes Work Order including drawings. Examines equipment to determine if additional safety or repair work is needed.
  • Documents completed Work Order data by using SAP comments section to explain what work was done the time taken and any parts used. Also records any production down time.
  • Immediately sources all materials and equipment required to complete Work Orders.


Qualifications


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND TALENTS:


  • Ability to maintain confidentiality to comply with all regulatory requirements and Company Privacy and Confidentiality policies and procedures.
  • Ability to complete all conditions of employment including negative alcohol and drug test, current and clean Alberta Class 5 driver’s license, pre-employment medical, immunizations, and background check.
  • Previous experience in an industrial process plant environment is a definite asset.
  • Attentiveness to details and ability to manage a diverse workload within a fast-paced environment with changing multiple priorities and frequent interruptions.
  • Minimum of four (4) years’ related-industry experience and completion of journeyman certification.
  • Only 3rd and 4th year Active Alberta Apprenticeship Certified candidates can be considered for this position.
  • Working-level computer skills to operate MS Office Suite (especially Outlook, Excel, and Word) and program-specific software.
  • Proven organizational and creative-problem solving skills.
  • Ability and willingness to work assigned shifts and pre-authorized overtime as scheduled.
  • Inter-provincial Journeyman Millwright Trade Certification (red seal) is also acceptable for this position.
  • Ability to wear respirator when required to meet safety guidelines due to noxious gas & dusty environment.
  • Strong customer service attitude and commitment to providing exceptional customer service and quality results.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team as well as independently with minimal supervision.
  • Experience with SAP or a similar computerized maintenance management system will be considered an asset.


WORK ENVIRONMENT


Regular hours of work for the Journeyman Millwright is based on a 42 hour average work week. These hours will be on night shiftl 4 on / 4 off 12 hour shift schedule. A 30-minute lunch break and two 15-minute paid rest breaks are provided for each shift.


Hours of work reflect operational and business needs and will be provided with a notice of work times in accordance with the Alberta Employment Standards code. Incumbent is required to work shifts as per established schedule and may be required to work pre-authorized overtime.
