Job Description

Arnett & Burgess is seeking a Shop Foreman, As a Shop Foreman for Arnett & Burgess Oilfield Construction Limited, you will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of our Sedgwick, Alberta shop, ensuring efficient workflow, maintaining quality standards, and managing a team of shop personnel.


Responsibilities:


  • Allocate work assignments and ensure timely completion of tasks to meet schedules and project needs
  • Provide technical guidance and support to shop personnel, assisting with troubleshooting, repairs, and complex projects as needed
  • Stay up to date with industry trends, new technologies, and best practices in shop management and maintenance
  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of shop personnel, including Heavy Duty and Automotive Mechanics, Apprentices and Wash Bay Attendants
  • Lead by example, demonstrating professionalism, integrity, and strong work ethics
  • Ensure effective communication and collaboration among shop personnel, fostering a cohesive and motivated team
  • Oversee equipment diagnosis, maintenance, and calibration, ensuring that all tools and machinery are in proper working condition and meet safety standards
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide feedback to team members, identifying areas for improvement and implementing training or development plans

  • Continuously assess workload and allocate tasks to shop personnel to ensure they are consistently engaged and productive
  • Ensure effective communication and collaboration among shop personnel, fostering a cohesive and motivated team. Lead by example, demonstrating professionalism, integrity, and strong work ethics
  • Coordinate and dispatch internal or third-party mechanics to the project location for timely repair and maintenance of heavy equipment
  • Ensure equipment leaving the shop is consistently repaired, maintained, cleaned, fueled, and washed
  • Personnel Management:
  • Maintain a high level of shop productivity by effectively managing work assignments, ensuring efficient utilization of resources, and optimizing workflow
  • Responsible for the general repairs and maintenance of our Heavy Equipment fleet in our Sedgewick, Alberta shop
  • Technical Expertise:
  • Monitor inventory levels of parts, tools, and equipment, and coordinate with the Procurement department to ensure availability and timely and cost-effective replenishment
  • Field Operations:
  • Receive calls from on-site operations regarding heavy equipment repair requirements and promptly assess the urgency and nature of the repair
  • Communicate effectively with on-site operations and mechanics to ensure clear understanding of repair needs, prioritize tasks, and provide necessary guidance and support
  • Maintain accurate records of work orders, repairs, and maintenance activities
  • Review and approve work orders and personnel time
  • Enforce safety regulations and best practices within the shop, ensuring a safe working environment for all employees
  • Safety and Compliance:
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards related to shop operations and maintenance
  • Ensure the shop is kept in an orderly and clean state
  • Foster a culture of teamwork, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the shop, promoting a positive and productive work environment
  • Perform required CVIP inspections
  • Shop Operations:
  • Monitor the progress of repairs, follow up with mechanics, and ensure that repairs are completed efficiently and according to quality standards
  • Regularly review and refine processes to streamline operations, improve efficiency, and eliminate personnel downtime.Monitor and maintain quality standards ensuring that all work is completed to defined expectations and procedures.Collaborate with the management team to develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safety protocols to ensure a safe and efficient work environment
  • Implement effective scheduling strategies to balance workload and resource allocation, considering factors such as skill levels, availability, and project needs
  • Administrative Duties:


Requirements


  • Solid organizational and multitasking abilities, with a keen eye for detail and the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical issues, as well as develop effective repair solutions
  • CVIP and Inspection Certification and experience on trucks and trailers
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety and knowledge of relevant safety regulations
  • Proven problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions under pressure
  • Pass a pre-employment drug screening.
  • A valid driver's license and a clean driving record
  • Proficient computer skills, including experience with shop management software and basic knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems, as well as automotive or equipment repair
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to effectively supervise and motivate a team
  • Proven experience as a Shop Foreman or similar role in a repair or maintenance shop environment
  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical certifications or trade school education is preferred


Working Conditions


  • This position is based on-site in A&B’s Sedgewick shop, Alberta, with travel required up to 15% of the time.
  • Monday – Friday. 8-hour shift. Overtime as required. Overtime eligible.
