Job Description

Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto’s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster and easier. Metrolinx is an agency of the Government of Ontario.

The Metrolinx Payments division, which is responsible for the PRESTO fare payment system, is seeking a Senior Test Lead to support validation and QA activities including Integration Testing, Acceptance Testing and Operational Readiness Testing.
What will I be doing?
  • Ensures the integrity and quality of testing processes, techniques, and project plans by following PRESTO gating, methodology and quality measures.
  • Conducts research into testing tools, methodologies, best practices, industry innovation and uses in order to propose improvements or enhancements to test processes and/or the automation of business functions and the best use of technology to improve effectiveness and customer experience.
  • Develops documentation for new and modified test policies and procedures (e.g. Test Plans, Test Cases, Defect Management and workflows), guidelines, concepts, components and tools that support and ensure consistency in the implementation of technology solutions and software/hardware testing and reflect best practices in technology standards and requirements.
  • Plans, monitors, controls and reports on testing activities, progress, quality status and test results. Proactively identifies issues and risks presented by testing (e.g. loss of application integrity, functionality, etc.) and ensures testing and processes are implemented to manage risks.
  • Reviews test strategies and plans for the application of technology in partnership with business leaders and leads and/or participates in the review of test cases and the set up and configuration of test environments.
  • Provides technical advice and expertise for business change efforts and reviews and advises on technical aspects of applications and the viability of alternative solutions.
  • Assesses and provides input to requirements for technical solutions to meet business goals, practices and processes. Identifies gaps between business requirements and system capabilities, and is accountable to ensure all requirements are mapped to capabilities to ensure that business needs are met.
  • Guides the procurement process and manages vendor relationships in support of the business leaders as it relates to Test processes or functions.
  • Works with business leaders and users to develop key test metrics and performance measures to gauge effectiveness and quality of test execution and code quality and to ensure the conceptual integrity, reliability and validity of testing tools and processes. Reviews and evaluates testing results for each application and adapts the test plan and/or compensates as needed to adjust to evolving conditions during testing phases.
  • Leads the QA process of all applications for PRESTO business requirements at all stages of the Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) (e.g. testing requirement and design, enhancements, and modifications, training and support) and provides authoritative advice and recommendations for remedying risk and problems.
What skills & qualifications do I need?
  • Knowledge of application environments (e.g. functionality and usability testing, user acceptance and release test procedures, etc.) to ensure the integrity /completeness of testing for all applications.
  • Minimum six (6) years’ experience in testing (manual and automated) and release management analysis as it pertains to the development of applications supporting corporate systems, preferably in the transport or construction industry and / or the public sector
  • Knowledge and understanding of Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) methodologies and applications testing principles to develop conceptual models for the planning, creating, testing, and deploying of new or upgraded hardware and software applications and to assist in improving existing business strategies.
  • Analytical and problem solving skills to lead the identification of IT solutions to meet business needs; facilitate use of innovative systems alternatives and integration strategies; identify, monitor, manage and mitigate risks and issues during testing phases.
  • Post-secondary degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business Process Improvement, or a related discipline – or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent
  • Knowledge of project management methodologies and techniques to ensure effective alignment of the testing function; plan, integrate, deliver and support testing work.
  • Interpersonal and consulting skills to establish effective relationships and provide advice to business leaders, gain agreement/consensus on solutions approach.
  • Leadership skills to supervise project teams for the successful deployment of technology solutions.
  • Interpersonal, oral/written/presentation communications skills to document and present business needs, specifications, reports, project documents, and implementation plans.
