Reporting to the Director of Process Engineering, the Senior Process Engineer is a versatile resource applied in both estimation and execution of projects that have process and automation components.

The primary responsibilities, expectations, and qualifications of this role are outlined below.

Responsibilities and expectations:

• Participate in the testing of the equipment in-house and on client’s sites
• Conduct work in a professional manner and communicate a positive image personally and of the project
• Support commissioning and start-up activities
• Provide pre-sales process and mechanical system support to sales teams, including cost and time estimates for projects
• Perform site reviews for mechanical, electrical and process installations
• Support fabrication team during construction to ensure design intent is met
• Enlist, support and manage subcontracts and vendors
• Support Field Supervisors in site troubleshooting, technical and maintenance assistance at customer locations
• Liaise with clients, contractor representatives and/or project field personnel as necessary to assist with meeting key project deliverables with strong ability to identify, troubleshoot and resolve arising issues in a timely manner
• Provide informed input to the control and automation, electrical and mechanical design of the systems
• Perform inspection, approvals and verification of components and assemblies in both fab shop and field environments, including as-built of the final project
• Aid in process control design related to mechanical systems as well as collaboration with the automation team.
• Aid in completion of mass balance, heat transfer, thermodynamic calculations, and other process related calculations.
• Work closely with other discipline Engineers, Designers and Project Managers as a key team player within an integrated multi-disciplinary project delivery team.
• Specify major equipment, select valves and instruments, specify piping requirements
• Complete project tasks that include, but are not limited to initial design criteria and basis for design drawings, P&IDs, generation of data sheets and tag lists, transmittals for approval, spool drawing review
• Aid in conceptual and detailed design of the process

Required Qualifications:

• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Familiarity with CFIA and HACCP requirements would be an asset
• Experience in the design of sanitary process systems including piping, vessels and skidded systems
• Strong organizational and analytical skills with the ability to work both independently and in a team environment
• Undergraduate Degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering
• 10+ years of experience in thePharmaceutical and Biotech industry, Food and Beverage, Planning and/or Project Management, preferably in a variety of fields (i.e., Beverage, Dairy an asset)
• Registered (or eligible for registration) as a Professional Engineer in Ontario with solid knowledge of engineering codes and standards
• Experience in the design of fluid and bulk materials handling processes including preparation of process flow diagrams, heat and material balances and P&IDs
