The Role In Brief

Senior Software Engineer (Java)

As a valued member of our software engineering team, you will tackle engaging challenges that feed into our two-week release cycle. As a Back-end Focused Senior Software Engineer, you will play a vital role at EAB, utilizing modern technologies to build high quality, efficient, and scalable solutions. This position is open to remote work based in Canada.

Primary Responsibilities

• Independently break down, estimate, design, plan, and deliver projects
• At times, contribute as a full-stack software engineer on an as needed basis but knowledge of front-end programming or React is not a requirement for the position
• Oversee up to two direct reports
• Create dynamic applications that integrate with our web platforms and systems
• Take charge of projects to deliver solutions that align with company objectives
• Create high-quality solutions that are optimized for performance and scalability
• Play a key role in improving our tech stack and tools
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers to elevate team performance and foster growth
• Follow common sustainable architecture patterns, design patterns, data management methodologies, and development standards
• Partner with cross-functional teams, including Product, QA, DevOps, and data, to achieve shared objectives.

Basic Qualifications:

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate via email, instant messaging, and video conference interactions
• Expert at time management as well as working & finding answers to questions independently
• Self-driven with a desire to work efficiently and produce high quality work
• Proficiency in the software development life cycle (SDLC) and an ability to navigate the technical and business challenges that arise during product development
• Experience with back-end test frameworks such as JUnit, Mockito, etc.
• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience and 4+ years of professional software development experience
• Experience with Microservices
• Experience in Kotlin or Java, Spring Boot, and relational or NoSQL databases
• Methodical and detail-oriented problem solver
• Passion for creating enterprise applications

• Expertise with traditional back-end architecture and design patterns
• Experience with Agile development
• Experience with microservices
• Expertise with Kotlin or Java, Spring Boot, JPA, Hibernate, MySQL, and MongoDB
• Experience with JUnit and Mockito
