We are looking for a Senior Financial Analyst to join our team!
Closing Date: Aug 30, 2023
Permanent: Full-Time, 35 Hours per Week, Evening Hours and Weekends may be required

Location: The Hybrid Work Plan developed for this role presently requires this position to work in a combination of work from home and work on site with equipment provided by CMHA. The successful candidate will have an opportunity to discuss this arrangement with their manager.
The CMHA home office for this role is Newmarket, located at 1101 Nicholson Road, Unit 5, Newmarket, ON L3Y 9C3 and incumbent may be required to travel to other CMHA Offices in York Region and South Simcoe as required.
Job Profile:
Reporting to the Finance Manager, this individual will have responsibility of the accounting, finance, business analysis and management decision support for the overall organization. This includes: month and year-end accounting; reconciliations; monthly and quarterly management reporting; meaningful results analysis; government reporting; and annual audits for the organization and assigned programs. They will also play a role in business analysis and management decision support by: creating and maintaining detailed budget and forecast models; designing and providing valuable management reports and metrics; providing thorough analyses of results against budget and forecast; and provide expertise in compliance matters and business processes.
Key Responsibilities:
Corporate Finance including the following:
- Collaborate with other departments to support the preparation of Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care (MOHLTC), Central Local Health Integration Network (CLHIN) and/or other funders documents and reports
- Aid in the preparation and filing of the Organizations annual and periodic tax returns including financial statements, statutory reports (CRA), executive summary reports, corporate tax return, etc.
- Able to generate key internal and external financial reports and is also responsible for the design of new financial reports
- Prepare and/or reviews technical accounting interpretations for various issues that arise
- Follow financial reporting policies and procedures and reviews financial reports to ensure compliance with GAAP and other rules of professional conduct of the Institute of Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario, MIS Guidelines, Multi-Sector Service Accountability Agreements (M-SAA); Organization’s financial Signing Authority and Delegation Policies ; all relevant Organization financial directives, policies and guidelines; and the Canadian Public-Sector Accounting Standards (for not-for-profit organizations)
- Support the Finance Manager as needed, to research, develop, and document technical accounting memos
Financial Reporting including the following:
- Perform continuous assessment of the month-end and year-end closing process and evaluates ways to reduce the timing to close the financial period
- Work with clinical and administrative business units on financial aspects of financial accounting and reporting
- Responsible for internal and external financial reporting for the assigned programs
- Assist with the preparation of required documents for various management and Board of Directors meetings
- Assist with the review of financial statements, reconciliations, and assigned working papers prepared by junior accounting staff
- Responsible for assisting in the preparation of monthly financial statements and year-end audited financial statements
Financial Management including the following:
- Prepare and presents financial reports, as required
- Analyze financial/statistical reports on a regular basis, taking remedial action to resolve identified issues
- Assist to ensure financial and planning processes are appropriately linked to projects, service delivery and other visible department outputs which provide value to clients, while identifying opportunities for cost savings and revenue generation
- Assist in the preparation of cash flow, working capital and total margin projections and analysis
- Monitor, analyze and reconcile variances from approved plan, taking remedial action to attain budgeted targets and mitigate run rates
Requirements:
- Work outside of normal business hours as required
- Ability to work independently and co-operatively as part of a team, management, board of directors, stakeholders and partners such as external vendors
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills; able to prioritize
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Ability to adapt to change and navigate through ambiguous situations
- A minimum of one years’ experience in budget, planning and preparing analysis
- Previous experience in working in Human Capital Management systems; UltiPro/UKG experience an asset
- Effective client relationship building skills; understanding the client’s needs and background
- Active progress to achieve CPA certification
- Post-secondary degree in a relevant field (e.g. Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business Administration and/or relevant field)
- Strong knowledge in various aspects of applicable legislation
- Project management skills
- A minimum of 1-2 years’ experience in finance in a number of functional areas including public accounting, not-for-profit and/or healthcare, full cycle accounting and policy development etc.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
Preferred:
- Knowledge and experience of Great Plains financial system
- Degree or relevant experience in Health/Hospital Administration, Business Administration, or related field
- Strong computer skills including PowerPoint, Excel (Macro’s an asset), Word, Visio and, Power BI (an asset), Microsoft Dynamics GP

This positions reports to, and is supervised by Senior Finance Manager.
Working Conditions: Works extensively at a desk, remotely or in office, using a computer and possibly a headset with microphone up to seven (7) hours a day. Works in any combination of standard office environment in a shared office space or remotely (i.e., from home). Travel to various satellite offices throughout York Region and South Simcoe. Weekend and evening hours may be required.
