Position Overview:
Our client is one of Canada’s leading private equity firms. Currently experiencing a period of substantive growth, they are seeking an Analyst to join their investment team. The Analyst will play a key role in assessing and managing direct private equity investments throughout North America. Working alongside other team members, the Analyst will evaluate potential investment opportunities, conduct research, develop recommendations, and participate in the negotiation and execution of investments within the firm’s TMT and digital infrastructure verticals. Hands-on portfolio management will also be an aspect of this role.
The ideal candidate will have 1-4 years of strong technical transactional and modelling expertise gained through investment banking, private equity or transaction advisory coupled with a long-term investment mindset.
This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated investment professional to join a highly reputable private equity investment team and contribute to helping companies accelerate growth and maximize value with the TMT space.
Role Responsibilities:
- Attend annual meetings and board meetings as required;
- Perform due diligence on opportunities including past and projected financial performance, quality of management teams, investment merits and risks, expected returns, regulatory environment, industry dynamics and other relevant factors;
- Conduct research, perform relevant analysis, and build complex dynamic financial models (including testing assumptions and sensitivities) to evaluate a variety of private equity investment opportunities;
- Coordinate with various investment and operations professionals to monitor ongoing financial and operational performance of investments;
- Review 3rd party due diligence reports (legal, accounting, industry strategic reviews, environmental, etc.);
- Assist in creating and presenting investment recommendations outlining potential investment opportunities to the investment committee;
- Work with management teams on strategic business initiatives and assist in building and leveraging relationships with portfolio company management teams and other stakeholders;
- Meet with company management and review past performance, strategy, outlook, regulatory and industry issues, and other relevant topics as required;
- Participate in and contribute to weekly departmental meetings and investment recommendation meetings.
- Assist in performing reviews of valuations for investments and monitoring potential exit alternatives (including public market conditions and potential strategic partners);
- Perform valuation analysis, including DCF, precedent transactions and comparable company analysis;
Desired Qualifications:
- Bilingual (French and English) an asset;
- 1-4 years of relevant experience in investment banking, private equity, accounting firm (transaction services/deal advisory) or other relevant fast-paced and analytically driven investment organization;
- CFA, or CPA, CA designation is considered an asset;
- Team player who enjoys a high performance culture.
- Confident and clear communication skills, both orally and in writing;
- Strong research, financial modeling, analytical and valuation skills with prior experience conducting due diligence;
- Flexibility, adaptability and initiative with the ability to multi-task and work in a very fast-paced environment with firm deadlines;
- Undergraduate degree, preferably in business or finance;
- Meticulous attention to detail;
- Ability to build and maintain business relationships and strong interpersonal skills;
- A high degree of professionalism and integrity;
Please note that at present, legal eligibility to work in Canada is a prerequisite for this role.
