Job Description
Position Overview
The Campus Security is currently seeking a Full-time Regular Security Operations Centre Coordinator.
Campus Security operates 24 hours per day on a year-round basis. The Employee in the Operations Centre Coordinator position is required to work in the Security Operations Centre 40 hours per week on a set static basis. Regular scheduled hours are on a full-time basis during Monday through Friday, with the hours being determined based on operational need and coordinated with the Security Operations Centre Supervisor, to which this position reports.
This is a non-uniformed position; however, business casual dress is required. The Employee may be required to work extended hours if coverage during a critical incident is required, at the discretion of the on-duty Patrol Supervisor and / or other manager positions in the Department. Overtime shifts may be available.
The Employee is part of a team, however, is required to work on their own for most of their shift. The Employee will deal with complex issues where professional judgement and discretionary decision making will have a high impact at both individual and institutional levels. The Employee is required to understand and work within the operational guidelines of the Campus Security Department and the University of Calgary.
The Employee will experience a very dynamic work environment with high stress factors. Work volume is unpredictable. Tasks range from routine to highly critical. The Employee will be in constant contact with the University community and members of the public. The Employee will advise and provide support to students, staff and visitors on security and safety matters.
Position Description
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
Communication & University Understanding:
  • Dispatch immediate emergency response to all critical life safety situations on campus.
  • Provide general assistance and direction to staff, faculty, students, and visitors.
  • Respond to all incoming phone calls (emergency, general service, assistance on campus).
  • Initiate appropriate response of University personnel as required. (Flood, structural damage, building systems).
  • Contact, direct and assist emergency personnel as required.
  • Initiate reports involving criminal and other offences, investigate as required.
  • Provide emergency contact for staff and students involved in international travel.
Knowledge & Technical Skills:
  • Coordinate with the IT Technical Lead, and Access Administrator positions to address system deficiencies or issues.
  • Monitor all CCTV cameras and ACS systems
  • Identify and dispatch all activated alarms. (fire, fire trouble, mixed gas detection, hold-up, panic, access, intrusion, tamper, door)
  • Provide CCTV operational review and support to the Campus Security Lead Investigator
  • Provide skilled operation of the 24-hour Security Operations Centre and all specialized computer systems. (Simplex fire panel, Genetec Access systems, Phoenix Alarm system, Resolver Incident Management system, Alertus, TASSTA Radio console
Personal Effectiveness & Teamwork:
  • Maintain close working relationships with external agencies (Police, Fire, EMS).
  • Provide internal training to Campus Security staff who will be learning the Security Operations Centre.
  • Take responsibility for own personal growth and development, health and fitness
  • Perform special investigations and other duties as required.
Qualifications / Requirements:
  • Candidate must be licenced under the Security Services and Investigator Act.
  • Current level C CPR (including AED) and Standard First Aid Certificates preferred.
  • Candidates are motivated to ensure the highest standard in customer service is met.
  • Experience with Resolver report writing software is beneficial.
  • Candidates who proceed past the initial interview stage will be required to provide a criminal records search including a vulnerable sector search. Candidates who proceed past the initial interview will also be required to complete a basic medical assessment which will be arranged through the University.
  • Minimum of 3 years work experience related to security service or law enforcement and full time dedicated dispatch operations experience is required .
  • Candidates are highly organized with demonstrated problem solving, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Candidates should understand current security standards and practices.
