The opportunity


We’re looking for a Sales Governance & Controls Analyst to join our Sales Enablement team at Manulife Bank. In this role, you will partner with key stakeholders including Compliance, Risk Management, IT, Audit, Operations and Sales. You will directly support Sales leaders during internal and external audits including business process and key control walkthroughs, evidence gathering, assisting with responses to audit findings and recommendations, all within expected timeframes. You will also liaise and directly support Sales on issue management, corrective action plans and governance and conduct key control testing. This position is focused on audit support and risk prevention and detection through enhancing existing controls and procedures or creating new ones to support risk mitigation throughout Sales.

Your Responsibilities Would Include


  • Completing Risk Control Self-Assessments (RCSA) for Sales and reviewing the adequacy of controls to determine if additional actions are required
  • Managing ad hoc initiatives related to controls and governance within target dates
  • Organizing the sales team’s record management efforts and acting as a subject matter expert in this area, working closely with other Department Record Specialists
  • Recommend new controls where gaps have been identified, or when a new initiative or business process is introduced
  • Facilitating closure of Sales Corrective Action Plans (CAPs), partnering with business stakeholders to provide satisfactory evidence to effectively close CAPs prior to due dates, with no recurrence of previously closed issues. Providing support to Sales teams in their management of risks with the purpose of improving operational risks controls
  • Providing “First Line of Defense (1b)” oversight by objectively identifying and implementing controls for Sales as well as measuring, monitoring, and reporting on those controls across Sales
  • Supporting Sales Leaders to review and respond to internal and external Audit requests, facilitate providing evidence, assisting with responses to findings and recommendations, and ensuring audit points and corrective action plans are closed within the expected timeframe
  • You will be a key subject matter expert on sales compliance requirements
  • Overseeing the implementation of Sales internal control process improvements based on audit findings or recommendations
  • Performing periodic tests of existing controls, define testing plans, report findings to management, and propose remediation plans or raise issues/Corrective Action Plans (CAPs) where appropriate
  • Building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders including Compliance, Operational Risk Management, Privacy, Sales Practices, and internal Audit teams to support identification of issues and action plans to remediate control gaps
  • Working with Sales leadership to implement, execute, evaluate effectiveness and evolve controls as required over time

What We Are Looking For


  • You learn FAST. You pick up new ideas, concepts, technologies, and tools easily. You are comfortable with MS Office applications and tools including Excel, Word, Access, Sharepoint, PowerAutomate and PowerBI.
  • You have project management and analytical skills and can work with teams to critically analyze issues, lead with expertise, resolve problems and drive to implement solutions
  • You have an approachable style and great communication skills that makes people want to work with you.
  • You have a university degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration and/or equivalent experience in a Controls environment within the Canadian Banking industry.
  • You don’t like to stand by when you notice that there’s something that could work better. You are accountable, you own it, you find solutions and do something about it!
  • The risk controls profession isn’t new to you. You’ve spent a minimum of 5 years or more growing your knowledge, skills, and experience in this line of work and you have a clear track record of success in supporting or leading the implementation of internal control process improvements or initiatives.
  • You successfully manage competing priorities like a champion.
  • You never lose sight of the customer - their needs and their experience in doing business with us. You put the customer at the centre of everything you do.
  • You are meticulously organized and can develop and implement systems to manage large amounts of data and details.

  • You are familiar with audit and corrective action plan processes and have a Financial Services/Banking background.
  • You have a strong understanding of controls frameworks and risk management practices

  • You have solid operational knowledge of Banking products and processes and the types of technology solutions that allow a Business to manage them.
  • You “go with the flow” and can adapt to change; you like to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • You understand the “3 lines of defense” and your role within them

Salary & Benefits


The annual base salary for this role is listed below.


Primary Location


CAN, Ontario - Full Time Remote


Salary range is expected to be between


$65,775.00 CAD - $109,625.00 CAD
