The Opportunity

Carewest Glenmore Park Geriatric Mental Health Unit is a 20 bed psychiatric rehabilitation program serving clients who are stable from a psychiatric perspective but require longer to recover from acute care admissions or who are struggling with mental health concerns in the community. It is a group based program that offers a wide range of therapies both group and individually based. It is a fast paced sub-acute unit that offers services to clients who have constellations of medical, psychiatric and psychosocial complexity.

Position Summary:

As part of a dynamic inter professional team, the person in this role is responsible for: Case management/prime therapy for up to 5 older adult clients with a primary mental health diagnosis, often with complex medical needs; creating strong therapeutic relationships with clients in individual as well as group therapies; facilitating family systems interviews; performing ongoing mental health and risk assessments; performing physical assessments and appropriate interventions to improve/maintain clients’ health status; for administering medications.

The person in this role is required to have a strong medical/geriatric skill set, strong mental health skills, knowledge and experience working within a psychiatric setting, an ability to work independently and autonomously in a rehabilitation setting, and the ability to lead the care team for their case management clients.

FTE: 1.00

Shift Times: 0700-1515

Union: UNA

Rate of Pay: $ 39.21 - $51.46

Required Qualifications

• Previous psychiatric/mental health experience excluding dementia care is required
• Previous experience in group facilitation an asset
• Previous experience in working with older adults is required
• Graduation from a recognized Nursing program
• Strong oral and written communication required
• Minimum 3 years nursing experience either in an acute care or rehabilitation setting is required
• Must hold current registration with CARNA or CRPNA
