Job Description

Acumen Health is a team of Private Orthopedic Sports Surgeons, Certified Athletic Therapists, Strength and Conditioning Coaches, and Kinesiologists. We have created a one-of-a-kind, all-encompassing sports medicine practice that can facilitate an individual's entire care from baseline/fitness/pre-performance testing, mobility assessments, strength assessments, independent medical evaluations, injury diagnosis, surgery, post-operative care and recovery.

At Acumen, the patient’s rehabilitative care plan is dictated by the Athletic Therapists who communicate with the Kinesiologists and Strength and Conditioning Coaches and can be overseen entirely by the Orthopedic Surgeon.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Champion mutually dependent relationships within the Acumen Health team.
  • Defensible documentation: Ensuring that all medical information, interactions, and interventions are documented and communicated as per medico-legal and Canadian Athletic Therapists Association (CATA) specific requirements.
  • Prevention, assessment, and management of musculoskeletal injuries.
  • Achieve optimal patient-centric outcomes, relevant to a patient’s specific needs.
  • Transcribe medical notes while attending and actively participating in orthopedic consultations and follow-up appointments as directed by one of our orthopedic surgeons.
  • Collaboration with the Acumen Performance team to create moments of exchange for feedback and problem-solving regarding strength and conditioning and performance support.
  • Promptly convey all pertinent information to the Acumen Reconditioning Manager while actively participating in periodic meetings and reporting.
  • Ensuring that all care, rehabilitation, and health care administration is delivered at the highest possible standard, while relevant to the functional demand of our patients and environment.
  • Reporting operationally to the Acumen Reconditioning Manager, and functionally to the Acumen Medical Director, CEO and Owner/Founder.
  • Make recommendations for referral, both within Acumen Health, and externally when deemed appropriate.
  • Active participant and contributor to departmental in-services geared at knowledge exchange and information retention as pertaining to the Acumen Reconditioning and Performance teams.
  • Stimulating and fostering close functional relationships with the Acumen Performance and Reconditioning team and other Acumen Health team members in establishing and implementing programs directed at the prevention of injury, performance enhancement, and post-operative rehabilitation.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Computer proficiency with the Google Cloud Platform
  • Valid certification in Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Occasional out of town travel required to Acumen Health locations outside of Edmonton.
  • 0-2 years of Certified Athletic Therapy experience
  • Utilization of, including but not limited to Sales Force electronic medical records, while making sure patient-therapist confidentiality is adhered to.
  • Police background check to be completed upon hiring.

Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of an Athletic Therapy program or equivalent bachelor’s degree.
  • Strength and conditioning certification (NSCA, NASM) not required; however, considered an asset.
  • Certified Athletic Therapist, CAT(C), in good standing with the Canadian Athletic Therapy Association.

Key Attributes and Skill Sets:

  • The ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively within the framework of your position and title.
  • Patient orthopedic evaluation, follow-up treatment, and care of acute, sub-acute, post operative and chronic conditions. Interventions include but are not limited to manual therapy, joint mobilizations, therapeutic exercise, IASTM, MFD, craniosacral therapy, ART, SCS, MFR, massage and trigger point release. Blood Flow Restriction as an adjunct therapeutic intervention to the Acumen Reconditioning and Performance teams.
