Job Description
The ideal candidate will assist ongoing research projects in the laboratory, which involves examining, evaluating, and preparing study-related documents. They will also help team members prepare for studies by assisting with equipment preparation and clean-up. In addition, they will be responsible for maintaining the lab's day-to-day operations, including restocking reagents, maintaining equipment, housekeeping the research environment, and managing inventory. The candidate will assist with ordering laboratory supplies, updating laboratory procedures, and ensuring that biosafety documentation is current. They will also need to communicate and keep records of experimental data and participate in internal monitoring, auditing, and quality assurance activities. The candidate will enter study data as needed under a manager's or delegated supervisor's guidance.


MSc in Science, or recognized equivalent, in a health or science-related discipline.


  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Office software (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and results-driven.
  • Familiarity with Flow Cytometry and related data analysis is a vital asset.
  • Strong ability to take initiative and work independently and in a team environment.
  • Experience working with in vivo animal models, such as mice, including routine dissections and surgical procedures.
  • Experience in the following techniques: biochemical techniques (e.g., western blot, IP’s, etc.), primary cell culture, molecular biology techniques (real-time gene expression, etc.), human and animal tissue processing, imaging (e.g., confocal microscopy)

Unit Summary


HHS is partnering with McMaster University to establish a new burn research program within the Thrombosis and Atherosclerosis Research Institute (TAaRI), located at the David Braley Cardiac, Vascular, and Stroke Research Institute (DBCSVRI) on the campus of Hamilton General Hospital.


The David Braley Research Institute (affiliated with McMaster University) has an immediate opening for a full-time, experienced Research Technician in the laboratory of Dr. Marc Jeschke – Professor, Vice President of Research at Hamilton Health Sciences.


Our laboratory focuses on understanding the mechanism and developing therapies for skin regeneration and attenuating trauma-induced stress, hypermetabolism, inflammation and sepsis.


Schedule Work Hours


Full time hours (37.5 hours/week). This is a temporary position until July of 2024.
