The Opportunity


The Lab Operations Coordinator reports directly to the Lab Director and is responsible for supporting the administrative aspects of the department and operation of the lab. This includes coordinating and maintaining laboratory equipment calibrations and maintenance, executing lab purchases, reconciling lab invoices, supporting staff on-boarding and orientation, supporting team leads in maintaining and enforcing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Laboratory Manuals, as well as providing daily support of lab operations and functions.


Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To


  • Supporting quality assurance and quality assurance policies and procedures
  • Ensuring lab/lab equipment maintenance and certification is current
  • Ensuring Good Clinical Laboratory Practices (GCLP) are facilitated and followed
  • Biosafety: Maintaining certificates and self-checklists regularly
  • Providing support to lab Investigators and Lab Director: students, check-in documents, record keeping
  • Supply Management: Inventory tracking, keeping stock of and ordering reagents, supplies, and equipment
  • Purchasing/Prioritizing/Organizing
  • Orienting and supporting lab staff and students in conjunction with the Lab Director and team leads
  • Invoice reconciliation, management, and organization.
  • Introducing new skills and techniques as needed by the research projects


Hours of Work


Monday - Friday, 8 AM to 4 PM, 7.5 hours/day


Your Qualifications


  • Proficiency in the use of software: word processing, database and spreadsheet, presentation, email, and electronic calendar (i.e. MS Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, and MS Outlook)
  • Excellent time management skills and experience
  • Relevant Bachelor’s Degree or diploma education (Biology, Science)
  • Self-motivated with strong organizational skills
  • Relevant experience within a university, hospital, or comparable environment in a research setting is considered an asset
  • Knowledge of laboratory practices, principles, and methods for research as per Laboratory Quality Management (LQM) standards
  • Familiarity with laboratory activities in clinical research is an asset
  • Knowledge of Biosafety and GLP standards and practices is an asset
  • Knowledge of laboratory equipment and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and preventative maintenance
  • Knowledge of Good Clinical Laboratory Practice (GCLP)
  • Ability to take initiative and troubleshoot
  • Demonstrate a high level of organizational, time management, and decision-making skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • 2-4 years minimum related experience is required
  • Problem solving skills with meticulous attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to speak, listen and write in a clear manner using appropriate and effective communication tools and techniques
