Compensation Range


$4,688.67 - $6,754.00 CAD Monthly

The midpoint of the range is approximately halfway between the minimum and the maximum and represents an employee that possesses full job knowledge, qualifications and experience for the position. In the normal course, employees will be hired, transferred or promoted between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range for a job.

Summary


The Research Lab Manager for is responsible for planning, developing, directing and coordinating operational aspects of the Principal Investigator s (PI) research at the Pacific Parkinson s Research Centre (PPRC). The Research Lab Manager will contribute to the advancement of the PI s research program to meet targets from each research study, and act as an advisor to lab operations.


Organizational Status


The Research Lab Manager reports to the PI and serves as a key member of the PI s lab. The Research Lab Manager is a key participant in designing the lab s strategy to fulfill the timeline of research studies and provide expertise to all research staff whom need assistance.


Work Performed


  • Facilitate in the archive, retrieval, maintenance and documentation of acquired fMRI data and oversee regular maintenance of lab s network drive
  • Develop and implement research protocols and contingency plans, work plans, and timeline
  • Organize and facilitate lab meetings. Participate in seminars, group meetings and conferences
  • Disseminate information to update lab members to ensure compliance with regulations and standards.
  • Prepare and routinely update SOPs for all ongoing research projects
  • Assist with hiring, training, and monitoring lab member performance and workload
  • Oversee and submit applications to the relevant Ethics Board regarding upcoming and current research studies
  • Ensure appropriate record keeping (e.g. Ethics, protocols, consent forms, data, and back-up of this information all according to Good Documentation Practices)
  • Responsible for day-to-day operations of the research
  • Serve as the internal day-to-day leader of the lab, maintaining continuous lines of communication and keeping the PI informed of all critical issues and progress reports
  • Conduct functional MRI studies in normal and patient populations including Parkinson s disease
  • Prepare abstracts, manuscripts, presentations and educational materials
  • Promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement, with a commitment to quality and excellence
  • Purchase operational lab supplies and prepare research participant reimbursements
  • Work with members to assign accountabilities, set objectives and establish priorities
  • Represent and promote the lab and PPRC at external events (fundraisers, support groups etc.)
  • Coordinates, monitors and ensures implementation and enforcement of study protocols
  • Oversee all stages of PI s research projects and ensure project deadlines are met while maintaining high level of quality


Consequence of Error/Judgement


This position is critical in maintaining the integrity and expectations of the PI s research program. The interactions of this position with donors and others external to the University can have serious implications for the reputation of the research lab and the University. The quality of the overall research, the research team s communication, and the performance of staff/trainees will be affected.


Supervision Received


Reports to the PI. Works with wide latitude. The incumbent works with a high level of independence and discretion. The incumbent may be subject to annual performance reviews conducted by the PI.


Supervision Given


Assist with hiring and supervision of new lab members. Must work cooperatively with members of PPRC.


Preferred Qualifications


Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline.Minimum of three years experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience managing a research lab within a large, complex, and fast-paced environment. Experience with Parkinson s disease research preferred.Minimum of two years experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience.including at least 1 year in a university setting. Demonstrated initiative and the willingness to work closely with members of a research team to ensure problems are solved quickly and appropriately. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong organizational, analytical and interpersonal skills. Effective computer skills. Ability to take initiative, anticipate emerging issues and recommend actions to mitigate problems. Must be able to self-direct, and work both independently and within a team environment. Ability to exercise tact, diplomacy and discretion; demonstrated ability to appropriately handle confidential and sensitive matters. Ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds, including members of the community, health care providers, and policy makers.
