About The Role

We are looking for a Relief Maintenance Supervisor to lead a team of Maintenance Tradespersons in executing maintenance activities safely and efficiently within the Plant Services Maintenance Department as required. The incumbent will also provide mechanical technical support to the area when not being utilized for Supervisor duties.

Reporting to the Maintenance Superintendent and working on a desirable Monday to Friday schedule, you will be


  • Monitoring working practices and adherence to safety procedures to ensure safety of employees. Complying with Rio Tinto and statutory safety requirements
  • Managing, supervising, and allocating work to a team of trade employees and or contractors as needed
  • Allocating maintenance coverage for breakdowns. Resolves on the job issues (with regards to planned maintenance activities, maintenance shutdowns, etc.)
  • Understanding, applying, adhering to the approved maintenance work management program, and ensuring compliance to planned and scheduled work orders
  • Preparing and entering data into various information systems (i.e. work order history, employee pay details, monthly reports, discipline, etc.)
  • Provide technical support for production and maintenance teams to meet operation targets.
  • Developing and promoting a positive employee relations environment within the department, ensuring that work is completed in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement
  • Leading with a genuine care for people, and providing appropriate feedback and coaching to team members
  • Maintaining a continuous improvement focus by recommending improvements to maintenance practices and productivity
  • Ensure effectiveness and compliance of the preventive, predictive, periodic maintenance (PPPM) activities to provide safe and reliable equipment operations


What You’ll Bring


  • Clear, concise, and tactful communication
  • Effective leadership skills the ability to set direction, prioritize and achieve objectives, actively listen, and engage and motivate your team members
  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
  • Technologist Diploma or Engineering Degree or Interprovincial Red Seal Interprovincial trade qualification in a mechanical field
  • A minimum of a valid Class 7 Provincial driver’s license
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in an industrial setting mining, processing, manufacturing or related
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.)
  • High school diploma or equivalency
