Your Opportunity:


Under the direction of the Preadmission clinic Manager and Unit Manager, the Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for assessing the needs of Pre-operative patients, for education and optimization of surgery using the Nursing Process and within RN Scope of Practice. Pre-operative assessments of the patient's medical history and teaching are conducted by telephone interview and/or in a fast-paced clinic environment. The RN provides support to Physician consultants, participates in and supports medical and nursing research activities, and demonstrates professional accountability in all aspects of dealing with the public. The RN demonstrates competence in delivering safe, effective and efficient care for patients within all elements of the current job description for Registered Nurses. The RN is responsible and accountable for practice in accordance to the standards defined by the College Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) Standards of Practice and complete care within his/her scope of practice. Direct nursing care includes assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation for assigned patients and works in consultation with RN/LPN colleagues and other services to meet the needs of more complex patients.


Description:


As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $35.17/hour - $42.96/hour ($35.87/hour - $43.82/hour effective April 1, 2023). Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable. Required Qualifications:


Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).


Additional Required Qualifications:


Previous Pre-Admission Clinic experience. Minimum typing requirement of 40 words/min. 5 years recent experience on a post-surgical unit and/or day surgery unit. Demonstrated proficiency in clinical assessment skills. Demonstrated strong critical thinking abilities. Demonstrated proficiency in providing patient teaching virtually and face to face. Ability to manage in a multi-faceted clinic through efficient time-management and organizational skills. Demonstrated initiative, flexibility, and independence of nursing practice in a multidisciplinary team environment. Effective interpersonal and communication skills through computer, verbal, and written means, in a professional and mature manner. Proficiency in computer skills. Expertise using the Windows environment and communication using AHS email. Ability to sit and/or stand while working for extended periods of time. Ability to provide CPR as a single rescuer for a short extended period.
