Key Areas Of Responsibility


Reporting to the Area Manager, or designate as may be required, the Project Engineer will have responsibility, regarding safety, performance, quality, and client satisfaction.


Essential Duties And Responsibilities


Health and Safety


  • Be a champion for safety, advocating safe behavor while incorporating safety into the designs produced by the group.
  • Work in compliance with all Health and Safety rules and regulations for Cementation.
  • Ensure all applicable safety codes and regulations are met by appropriate design and use of technology.
  • Be aware of any health and safety hazards or infractions and report same to Health and Safety Department.
  • Sincerely and genuinely commit to adopting and providing the Cementation Safety Culture and ensuring compliance to Cementation safety programs and processes as outlined in the Health and Safety Policy and Injury/Incident Prevention Guide.
  • Ensure the measures and procedures prescribed by the applicable Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations are carried out in the workplace. When in doubt or when certain jurisdictions do not have well defined safety requirements the most stringent standard available would apply.


General Duties And Responsibilities


  • Be guided by Cementation's corporate vision, values, and mission, and make decisions that are based on our "best for project" philosophy.
  • Ensure operations and proposals are in compliance with all applicable environment regulations.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain daily, weekly, and monthly reports.
  • Nurture existing client relationships and develop new ones.
  • Participate in recruitment of site personnel.
  • Participate in the marketing of the company.
  • Actively participate in the development of employees, understanding their career aspirations, and developing pathways for achievement.
  • As requested, provide expert technical assistance during the execution of the mining works, providing procurement with technical information and support to ensure that Client and Project requirements are met.

  • Support delivering projects on schedule and on budget, while making every consideration that the work is done without harm to our employees or others in our project areas.
  • During development and construction, assess and provide technical recommendations in response to Field Enquiries.
  • Collaborate with Project Services and Engineering to produce "Best for Project" designs that are safe, reflect the client's operability requirements first, and are constructible.
  • Assist the contracting group with business development and support, as well as tendering work and estimation.
  • Identify changes in industry best practice, codes, standards, and regulations, then as assigned, develop, and continuously improve discipline specific standards including specifications, design basis and criteria templates, design spreadsheets, workflow procedures and change management forms.
  • Regularly review "state of the art" software developments, ensuring that software and the appropriate personal software skills are maintained at or above the industry standard.
  • Attend meetings pertaining to the project.
  • Serve the customer by identifying customer needs and working diligently to solve problems/issues/concerns.
  • Work with the project team to plan methods and approaches to be used for each project and execute the project.
  • Coordinate head office resources to provide good service and maximize project efficiency.
  • Mentor and develop employees so that they can advance through various career opportunities.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Use the most current versions of Codes, standards, regulations, company, and client standards.
  • Oversee assigned aspects of the designated project and project controls.
  • Ensure that project close out documentation is in compliance with regulatory, Client and Cementation requirements.
  • Develop and review mining sequence, working with all stakeholders from mine operations to corporate office clients.
  • Provide risk management and value expertise in the development of the mine's plans.
  • Review mine plans considering all mining methods, equipment, geology, geohydrological and geotechnical constraints.
  • At various project phases, assist in preparing strategies for and lead/participate in Risk Assessments, providing expert opinions in identifying and mitigating risks.
  • Where applicable, ensure that Project Deliverables, such as drawings and specifications reflect as-built information, and that As-built or Record Drawings are issued. As necessary, use due diligence and change management principals.
  • Review, understand and execute the project contract in good faith for the benefit of all stakeholders.
  • As assigned, contribute to the maintenance and development of departmental standards, ensuring conformance with current codes, standards, and mining regulations.
  • Understand software and hardware needs for the group, including interoperability status of software.
  • As required by client needs, provide technical due diligence, peer review and audits of operating the mine's plans.
  • Participate in Design Reviews, ensuring that the mine plan completely satisfies its fundamental purpose, while being operated and maintained safely and efficiently. Ensure regulatory, safety and client operability requirements are met, and collaborating with Operations to ensure that the mine and associated infrastructure will be built in the safest, most efficient, and cost-effective manner possible.
  • Produce as-builts daily.
  • In providing Field solutions, understand and enforce Change Management Principals, use Cementation standard Forms, ensuring that Project Scope, Budget, and Schedule are always respected.


Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

  • Expert knowledge and skills in the following software: MS Office Suite, MS Project, Primavera P6.

  • Possess a strong understanding of mining processes, particularly mine development.
  • Knowledge of mine planning software such as Deswick.

  • Strong knowledge of Hard Dollar estimating software, ideally also the project controls module of this software.
  • Competent computer skills required to operate in a modern office environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to motivate the project teams and be committed to safe working practices.
  • Depth of operational and study experience combined with advanced analytical capabilities, forming a platform for thorough independent review of mining data, methods, and 'achievability' of the business plan.
  • Ability to work as part of and have some leadership of a multi-disciplinary, multi-cultural team.
  • Possess an understanding of business processes.
  • Engaged.

  • Potential to mentor and supervise project workforce.


Pre-Employment Qualifications


  • Criminal Record Check (if applicable).
  • Pass pre-employment drug, alcohol, and medical testing.


Education And Experience


  • Engineering Degree or Project Management Designation would be beneficial, together with, or eligibility for and working towards a Professional Engineer designation in a relevant jurisdiction, either Ontario or resident location.
  • Must be in possession of a valid driver's license.
  • Experience in roles of increasing responsibility in mine operations, contracting and engineering, is required.
  • A project management or equivalent background involving budget development and management would be beneficial.
