Job Description
Summary


Job Title: QC Technician


Location: Tumbler Ridge, BC


Mine Site: Wolverine Mine


Schedule/Terms of Employment: This is a full-time permanent position.


Primary Purpose


Reporting to the Quality Control Supervisor, the Quality Control Technician is responsible for the routine collection/testing of materials, as well as the adherence of all testing methods.


Duties And Responsibilities


  • Attend and participate in all scheduled health and safety meetings and training.
  • Conduct routine and situational analysis of materials;
  • Communicate test results in a timely manner to the QC Supervisor and properly document in database;
  • Monitor the construction of stockpiles to ensure that segregation and contamination is kept to a minimum;
  • Ensure housekeeping standards are maintained in and around the lab;
  • Inspect stockpiles, material sources and trains at the plant sites;
  • Compile all reports in a timely and accurate manner
  • Ensure adherence to Conuma Coal Resources environmental policy, work standards, management plans and regulatory obligations and requirements;
  • Maintain a high level of Health and Safety performance through effective communication.
  • Identification and reporting of health and safety risks, accidents, incidents, injuries and property damage at the workplace
  • Ensure adherence to Conuma Coal Resources workplace policies and standard work procedures for risk identification, risk assessment and risk control
  • Inspect, calibrate and maintain testing equipment periodically;

Technical Competencies & Skills


  • Competence in the maintenance and troubleshooting of QC instruments/equipment
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint

  • Ability to prioritize projects and manage time
  • Ability to perform tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Well versed in statutory mining regulations and regulatory agency structures
  • Know and understand QC instruments/equipment safety standards
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Understanding of on-line analyzers
  • Excellent critical thinking, problem-solving abilities and interpersonal skills.
  • Quick learner and adaptable to an ever-changing environment
  • Understanding of applicable ASTM standards
  • Ability to build strong working relationships, internally.


Education, Qualifications And Experience


  • Completed Quality Control Technician Certification would be an asset.
  • Minimum High school diploma is required but degree or diploma (or equivalent) in Chemistry/Geology related field is preferred
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license with clean abstract
  • Previous quality control experience using a variety of instrumentation is a strong asset.
  • 1 to 3 months related experience and/or training in an industrial setting preferred.
