Scope of the Position:
Reporting to the Director of Supply Chain Management, the Purchasing manager is responsible for all purchasing and inventory operations throughout Gescan. The role will also lead the transformation of the procurement team from a traditional, tactical group to a progressive, collaborative and strategic purchasing team.
Key responsibilities:
- Accountable for meeting inventory service level objectives and inventory turn objectives within multiple sites, purchasing and inventory lead in all meetings.
- Manages the purchasing and inventory operational budget, and identifies and manages variances, including other budgetary and financial reports as required.
- Other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- Develops, manages, and assesses purchasing and inventory performance through Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), metrics and use data to drive continuous improvement into support of business management and strategy.
- Analyze complex situations and data, providing creative solutions to achieve desired result.
- Develop, implement, and maintain the Purchasing and Inventory teams strategic plan, encompassing organizational requirements, departmental growth, and vision for one-, three-, and five-year projections.
- Lead and mentor the Purchasing team, including driving accountability, setting performance objectives, regular team meetings and communicating direction and changes, and training.
- Develops and maintains strong internal and external business relationships, across all levels, working closely with Marketing, Pricing, Sales Management and Vendor Management to execute changes to SKUs and inventory needs with accuracy and speed.
- Create an efficient replenishment and inventory management culture based on strong process, continuous improvement, and team development.
Desired Skills and Experience:
- Proven ability to use computerized materials management inventory systems and various software applications, such as Word and Excel.
- 5+ years of experience successfully working as a purchasing manager within a complex purchasing environment, ideally in retail or distribution industries, where efficiency in supply chain are critical to sales growth and profit optimization.
- Working knowledge of accounting and budget practices.
- Proven ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing in English.
- Proven ability to effectively lead a large team.
- Excellent organizational, planning, problem solving, decision making and time management skills, with strong attention to detail.
- Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships in a team environment.
- A Supply Chain Management Professional from SCMA and/or a related business / commerce degree preferred.
