COMPANY OVERVIEW
Human and Nature Youth Club is a non-profit organization with the mission to inspire the next generation to interact responsibly with the environment, by providing nature-focused curriculum, outdoor field trips and competitions to students in Vancouver, British Columbia. Partnered with the University of British Columbia, both organizations are leading the initiative to bring an LCOY Canada conference.
LCOY OVERVIEW
A Local Conference of Youth (LCOY), is an event under the umbrella of the official youth constituency at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The underlying objectives of this annual meeting are to encourage Canadian youth climate action locally and to give youth delegates a chance to contribute to the Conferences of the Parties (COP). The final outcome is the coordination of a Canadian youth statement on climate action that aims to influence both national and international climate policy. This conference will provide youth the space to share their experiences with climate change in Canada, collaborate for climate action, network nationally, and provide a platform of visibility for Canadian youth climate action. The collaborative focus for the conference is organizations representing youth and youth-run organizations. LCOYs generally take place 3 weeks before COP. The national statements are submitted to the Conference of Youth (COY) for the preparation of a global youth statement that is then submitted to COP. LCOYs are generally 2 to 3-day events that focus on and discuss relevant country-wide climate change themes. They can include activities such as climate negotiation simulations, climate theatres, and workshops.
