Job Description

Dawson Road Maintenance operates a diverse fleet of specialized equipment using the latest in technology, including GPS-tracking backed by real-time weather forecasts. From winter snow to avalanches, mud slides or washouts, we work hard to make sure our highways are open and safe for the travelling public.


In this role you will be a valued member of Dawson Road Maintenance, working in a permanent full-time position of a Project Manager, reporting to the Division Manager, Operations. As the Project Manager you will provide management oversite to field operations to support project completion by implementing problem solving initiatives and project coordination efforts to ensure successful delivery of the project plan. The ideal candidate will effectively work with customers, both internal and external, to provide a valued service as an industry expert in construction, infrastructure rehabilitation and maintenance services. Travel within BC to various Dawson Road Maintenance project sites will be required, the base location will be Fort St John or Smithers, BC.

What Success Looks Like


  • Direct and manage a team of DRM staff involved in the project, from beginning to end of project.
  • Project administration including creating clear and attainable project objectives, labour needs and develop regularly scheduled project updates, documentation.
  • Effectively communicate project expectations to Foremen and stakeholders in a timely and professional manner on an ongoing basis.
  • Assist field operations employees with on-site challenges.
  • In collaboration with the Safety Manager, manage and model site safety having zero tolerance for safety infractions.
  • Work within the scope or the MotI maintenance contract, DRM Safety approach and Quality Management System to estimate budgets and schedules and to implement improvements related to cost delivery techniques.
  • Prepare, organize and keep all project correspondences current in the respective project files.
  • Provide strong leadership and management to the team while focusing on project objectives and in adhering to the standard policies and procedures.
  • Check, review and approve all invoices / progress claims for correct accomplishments, unit price, percentage of work performed and code invoices.
  • Combined with sensitivity to Stakeholder needs, deliver effective solutions within scope, schedule, and budget on all types of projects from road and bridge maintenance, infrastructure rehabilitation and other related projects.
  • Direct field operations staff including subcontractors in completing project tasks according to the schedule.
  • Deliver projects in a safe, timely, profitable manner while maintaining the highest level of quality.
  • Work closely with internal clients to ensure a team approach to project delivery.
  • Support to the delivery of the Operations and Quality Management program for the area.


What You Bring


  • Experience managing projects in excess of $ 5 million.
  • Experience with Microsoft Project and other project management tools.
  • Minimum (5) years of experience and understanding of the road and bridge maintenance in BC.
  • Certified or Project Management Professional (PMP) or Engineering or Science considered an asset.
  • Experience working with union environments.
  • Five (5) years of supervision Project Manager or maintenance oversight experience.
  • Demonstrated skills in management, strong communication, interpersonal skills and effective decision-making capabilities.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both as part of a team and independently.
  • Strong project execution experience with focus on planning, scheduling, cost, and risk management.
