Job Description
Summary
Reporting to the Program Manager, Autonomy Projects, the Project Lead, Autonomy is responsible for delivering mine automation projects of strategic importance to Teck. This portfolio consists of a variety of projects that range in complexity and technology readiness level, from shovel operator assist to autonomous drilling. This position will use existing resources at the operating site and within central teams to lead all work required including; regulatory approval, communications, planning, installation, commissioning, operational readiness, optimization and transfer to operations. Upon demonstrating the successful performance of the technology, the individual in this position will be responsible for the further expansion across Teck where vital, following a highly organized and scalable fashion to leverage existing operational findings.
The successful candidate should be a highly motivated individual with strong competencies in project management, mining processes, organizational change and bias for hands on field presence and action. This individual should demonstrate outstanding interpersonal skills, leadership skills and the ability to empower individuals from a diverse group of backgrounds. Responsibilities
  • Ensure requirements for operation are established following change management standard methodologies associated with people, process, and technology
  • Accountable for handling commercial agreements, procurement activities, and site contractors in development and execution of work plans
  • Establish and maintain accurate and relevant metrics for autonomous systems performance including but not limited to safety, productivity, reliability, and cost
  • Ensure the development of detailed and comprehensive business processes, training strategies, plans, procedures, and materials as well as the training delivery for all existing employees requiring upskilling to support the commissioning and operations phases of the project
  • Cooperate with Central Autonomy and Site Based teams on case development and vendor selection process
  • Facilitate project progress updates and key decisions to steering committee, and other customer groups on agreed frequency
  • Coordinate with site, central collaborators and departments in allocating key resources to deliver the project outcome
  • Responsible for maintaining financial forecasting and all cost control activities
  • Deliver the safe, efficient and timely implementation of autonomy projects ensuring they are on budget and to the optimum performance level achievable
  • Lead all aspects of ensuring regulatory approval processes are met
  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor Teck’s commitment to health, safety, and environmental as a core value
  • Accountable for planning and scheduling of the project as well as tracking progress to successfully implement project milestones and deliverables
  • Accountable for ensuring construction/configuration of all autonomous systems and infrastructure meets quality specifications
Qualifications
  • Project Management Professional designation would be considered an asset
  • Strong leadership skills with a proven track record of leading technical and operations teams that deliver results
  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Mining, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, with Professional Engineer Designation (P.Eng)
  • Solid understanding of mining industry fundamentals
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills as well as excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Operational experience with mining autonomy is an asset
  • A change Agent with experience and understanding of efficient change management
  • Able to work effectively and build and nurture trusting relationships with people from across stakeholders, departments, etc.
  • Problem Solving; able to organize sophisticated problems, frame analysis, and arrive at conclusions quickly
  • Bias for action; seeks to move from analysis to action as quickly as possible
  • Proficient in ERP Systems, Microsoft Project, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Driven to independently deliver work products to timelines
  • Adaptable and comfortable with working in ambiguous and unstructured settings
  • Minimum 7 years of open pit mining, project management, and field experience
