THE ROLE

Backwoods is looking for an experienced Senior Estimator with 7-10 years of estimating expertise in the Civil field. Civil projects typically include heavy industrial projects such as gas plants, compressor stations, lease pads/roads and pipelines. In this role you will oversee and perform quantity take offs, proposal creation, cost analysis and competitive bid management while utilizing current estimating software such as Primavera, Microsoft Project and InEight Estimate (Hard Dollar). You will oversee and prepare lump sum, unit price and cost plus estimates for a broad range of projects. Backwoods head office is located in Edmonton, however we have multiple projects across Alberta and BC.

What You'll Be Doing

• Develop a bid strategy, plan out project schedule/execution, complete estimates and proposals and present to management.
• Be able to develop, resource load and update project Schedules
• Complete proposals in their entirety utilizing templates provided as a starting point.
• Oversee the estimating process and provide mentorship and guidance to the other estimators
• Develop complete estimates on selected projects consisting of project site visit, quantity take-off, pricing, and presentation of the estimate for management review.
• Additional and alternative duties that may be changed from time-to-time by the Employer.
• Analyze plans, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare bid estimates for projects, supports the presentation of estimate proposals.
• Must be able to communicate effectively (both verbally or written) with the project teams, all levels of management, clients, and industry contacts; and
• Implement and maintain Backwoods systems and procedures in relation to estimating.
• Interpret historical data and statistics to prepare conceptual estimates.
• Prepare and present research and cost data to management team.

What We're Looking For

• Knowledge of construction costs and budgets, ability to develop a project schedule.
• Strong computer background including experience with MS Office, Bluebeam, Hard Dollar, Microsoft Project, and related estimating software is a must.
• Knowledge of modern construction practices, techniques and equipment.
• Completion of post-secondary education with a diploma or degree related to Construction Management, Estimating, Engineering or equivalent is preferred.
• Ability to work in a team environment and willing to promote teamwork by motivating, coaching and guiding others.
• Previous supervisory experience.
• Ability to problem solve, manage multiple priorities, and work effectively in a time sensitive environment.
• An understanding of construction documents and the ability to assess the level of completeness.
• 7-10 years of related estimating experience.
