Job Description

Skeena Resources Limited is a Canadian exploration mining company, focused on working towards the restart of the past-producing Eskay Creek gold-silver mine with additional development projects in our portfolio, all located in Tahltan Territory in the Golden Triangle of northwest British Columbia, Canada. Eskay Creek was the highest-grade gold mine in the world when in production. The mine produced 3.3 million ounces of gold and 160 million ounces of silver at average grades of 45 g/t gold and 2,224 g/t silver from 1994-2008.

Position Title: Project Engineer OR Senior Project Engineer

Reporting directly to the Manager, Site & Earthworks Construction, the Project Engineer / Senior Project Engineer is the primary position responsible for management of major construction projects and field investigation programs at the Eskay Creek site. This site-based role is responsible for working directly with contractors, engineers, Skeena corporate office, and other stakeholders to ensure successful execution of construction projects.

The Project Engineer / Senior Project Engineer will focus on safe production and will assist the construction team with budgeting, scheduling and quality control. This role will oversee a variety of earthworks construction projects, mining pre-development scopes and geotechnical investigation programs.


Position Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to all environmental policies and ensure effective implementation of Metal Leaching and Acid Rock Drainage management plans.
  • Ensure effective stakeholder engagement and management.
  • Define project quality requirements and ensure the right systems are implemented.
  • Manage contract and scope changes for all projects and programs.
  • Establish a risk management focus for the project lifecycle including maintaining project risk registers.
  • Acts as the Owner’s representative for all facets of project and program execution.
  • Effectively manage project budgets.
  • Ensure effective communication within the project team and outside stakeholders.
  • Maintain HSE focus and compliance throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Manage and monitor overall project performance in line with approved project budget and schedule.
  • Work directly with design engineers on RFIs, deviations from design and field changes.


The Ideal Candidate:

Academic / Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in relevant engineering discipline (Mining, Geotechnical, Geological, Civil) .

OR

  • Technical Diploma in Engineering, Geomatics or Construction Management.


Required Skills / Experience:

  • Demonstrable commitment to HSE Management in a project environment, leadership and communication skills and a high level of client/customer focus.
  • Previous project management experience on projects US$5m - $15m total value.
  • Proven technical, practical and commercial experience including proven ability in leading multidiscipline activities. Previous technical, practical and leadership experience in the relevant discipline and proven experience in delivering Brownfields projects.
  • Relevant experience sufficient to ensure a thorough understanding of the technical, commercial and managerial aspects of projects.
  • Eligible for registration with affiliated professional association in the jurisdiction of practice.
  • Approximately 6-10 years’ industry experience, with at least 5 years’ experience in project engineering / management with demonstrated experience leading projects teams.


Working Conditions:

This is a site-based job. This position involves working at a remote exploration site on a two week on/two week off rotation with occasional work from home requirements. This role has the potential to become an office based / work from home position during the winter of 2023/24 for a period of approximately 5 months, at which point the role would revert to site-based on a permanent basis.

The Eskay Creek Revitalization Project is located within the Coast Mountains of Northwestern British Columbia and Tahltan Territory. Ground transportation will be provided from local communities to the Eskay Creek camp facilities. For those applicants located elsewhere in western Canada, flight transportation from major urban centres will be provided to the Terrace or Smithers airports, from which shuttles will provide transportation to the Eskay Creek camp facilities. Travel time and expenses are subject to Skeena’s Travel Policy.

There will be exposure to extreme temperatures in all seasons including working outdoors in snow, mud, ice, and water conditions, walking to and from different locations on uneven ground, prolonged periods of standing and physically handling/lifting/moving heavy objects.
