Role


The purpose of this job is to manage the replenishment buying, customer fill rates, inventory DSO, inbound cases per pallet efficiencies, aged stock inventory management, buying involved shrink, costing integrity of our SKU base and other merchandising projects as assigned. This position is also responsible for the supervision of all procurement activities.


Role Responsibilities


  • Inventory management, including maintaining inventory turns to budget, product shrink to site plan, identification and return of dead stock to suppliers, processing new product request forms, maintaining accurate information, reviewing purchase order inquiry reports, holding vendors accountable for follow up and coordinating with the Operations teams to ensure that warehousing issues and efficiencies are factored in the purchasing decision.
  • Is willing to drive Environmental, Health and Safety performance by acting as an example and holding their team accountable to complying with EHS programs, policies, and requirements.
  • Supervise Category Planners with the intent to retain and motivate. Assign, schedule, coordinate and review the work of direct reports. Train, develop, empower, coach and counsel, conduct performance and salary reviews, resolve problems, and provide open communication. Assist in the recruitment and hiring of the most qualified staff as required. Work with Human Resources to discipline or performance manage associates as required. Facilitate regular staff meetings and problem-solving sessions.
  • Direct procurement and overall procurement supervision, including entering and maintaining all purchase orders including additions, deletions and price changes, receiving and documenting all PO confirmations, tracing and expediting outstanding PO’s, reviewing stock status, daily and weekly maintenance regiments, unallocated future order inquiry and special order product requirements, consideration of code-dated inventory and transferred product, negotiating efficient and timely delivery or pick up of products and ensuring product quality standards. As well, ongoing training and mentoring of the procurement staff including goal setting and metrics attainment.
  • Maintain a high level of communication between the procurement function and all areas of the Region including Sales, Operations, Merchandising, Logistics and Finance.

  • Work in conjunction with all members of the Merchandising and Marketing teams on assigned projects to increase and enhance the efficiencies and profitability of the Region.

  • Work with Merchandising and Sales teams to maintain and enhance service levels standards that include; ensuring purchasing-related shortages are minimized to support service level objectives, maintaining continuous improvements to site customer fill rates in pursuit of top levels of Canadian fill rate results, utilizing return goods report, short report, adjustment register, P.O. inquiry, sales promotional and other forecasting tools.
  • Responsible for compliance with all Policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) comprising Sysco’s Food Safety Program, specific for the assigned role. Assist Food Safety Program Manager in ensuring compliance to Sysco’s Food Safety Program that leads to compliance with third party certification and customer requirements.

  • Understands that their role is critical in creating a safe organization with minimal environmental impact and the value that brings to the organization.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Accountable for the administration of the accurate and timely costing of all items within the system for all categories. This includes securing PO confirmations for 100% of purchase orders and assisting in the resolution of pricing variances.
  • Complies with Sysco’s Food Safety Policy and procedures to ensure food safety, quality and legality requirements are met.
  • Lead Logistics team on successful conversions of prepaid vendors to collect and in support of logistics and backhaul overall metric targets.


Qualifications/Skills/Job Requirements (About You)


  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Post secondary education in Business, Marketing or related field preferred; equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
  • Minimum 3 years in a leadership capacity in a procurement/purchasing related role.
  • Some travel may be required (up to 20%)
  • Valid driver’s license in good standing with access to a vehicle is required
  • Knowledge of AS400, E3, DPR, and Tableau an asset.
  • Experience in foodservice purchasing, logistics, or distribution is an asset.
  • Negotiation - Effectively exploring alternatives and positions to reach outcomes that gain the support and acceptance of all parties.
