We have a track record of delivering award-winning and industry-defining solutions. Join our team as we continue to enable our clients to build more resilient and sustainable infrastructure.
The Opportunity:
We are looking for an experienced payroll professional with a keen eye for detail, critical thinking skills and the ability to multi-task efficiently.
This position is responsible for coordinating the accurate preparation, calculation, and completion of full-cycle payroll in up to 18 different countries.
This is a very analytically focused role, and is a great opportunity for someone experienced with multi-national payroll to join a growing payroll team within the Finance & Accounting department at Copperleaf.
The successful candidate should have experience with Canadian & US payroll (in multiple states), preferably within a tech company of at least 500+ employees worldwide across many different countries.
Responsibilities:
  • Create ad hoc reports upon request
  • Process all non-cash compensation transactions including stock options, employee awards and gross-ups, and other taxable benefits
  • Assist with special projects as required
  • Verify & distribute all employee tax statements and notifications as required by law
  • Prepare payroll journal entries and provide support on payroll account reconciliations
  • Process the semi-monthly and monthly payroll earnings and adjustments across multiple countries
  • Manage and reconcile all payroll related tax remittances and workers compensation across multiple jurisdictions
  • Provide timely responses to inquiries from Finance, HR, leadership, and employees
  • Register and maintain tax agency accounts
  • Keep current on all payroll-related laws, policies and regulations through on-line and written resources, and attending payroll seminars as needed
  • Verify and process information on new hires, terminations, leaves of absence & top-up payments, address changes, and department changes
  • Review & approve payrolls and journal entries prepared by other members of the payroll team, following internal control processes
  • Maintain proper payroll records to support internal and external audits
About You:
You are organized and meticulous in your work. You pride yourself on accuracy and you can easily spot and correct any discrepancies. You are aware of and stay up-to-date with the rules, regulations, and best practices in the industry and have experience administering payroll in a multi-national organization.
You should also have:
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Ability to handle multiple responsibilities with competing priorities in a fast-paced progressive environment
  • Strong analytical skills and organizational skills
  • Advanced hands-on experience with MS Excel (pivot tables, xlookup, etc.)
  • In-depth understanding of general payroll processing and terminology, including government remittances, statutory and non-statutory deductions, ROEs, T4 slips, and payroll records management
  • PCP or CPM certification (from Canadian Payroll Association/National Payroll Institute) required, and must be a member in good standing with the National Payroll Institute.
  • Ability to participate as an engaged team member and to work independently
  • Minimum of 3+ years’ full-cycle, progressive payroll experience, preferably in the tech industry
  • Multi-national payroll experience preferred
  • Ability to understand, interpret, explain and apply laws, regulations, and procedures concerning payroll in different countries
  • Excellent problem recognition and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive employee information
  • Demonstrated high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Experience with researching and setting-up payrolls in new jurisdictions considered an asset
