Job Description

Are you a detail-oriented individual with a passion for numbers and a strong background in payroll administration? We are currently seeking a dedicated Payroll and Benefits Administrator to join a dynamic team for one of our dedicated clients in construction industry in GTA. This is a full-time permanent position that requires your presence onsite, allowing you to be an integral part of a close-knit work environment. My client offers excellent compensation package with free parking onsite. It is a standalone position with a opportunity to grow into a managerial role and the candidate will be reporting to the Controller.


Roles and Responsibilities

  • Conduct monthly audits, reconciliations, and remittance processing.
  • Process new hire and termination forms and submit ROE forms within specified timelines.
  • Manage HR functions such as onboarding, employment contracts, and new employee orientation.
  • Review and approve timesheets, ensuring that hours are authorized by managers in a timely manner.
  • Prepare payroll reconciliations and journal entries.
  • Create and maintain payroll profiles for staff members as advised by HR.
  • Process weekly, bi-weekly, commission, and union payroll for all 150-200+ employees, including bonus payments and termination pay.
  • Perform other assigned payroll duties as needed.
  • Implement policies and drive process improvements to align with evolving business requirements.
  • Generate necessary reports from the payroll system.
  • Perform annual reconciliation of statutory deductions in Canada.
  • Collaborate with auditors as scheduled.
  • Process and submit all payroll-related payables, including EHT, source deductions, WSIB, Sunlife, Manulife, and union payments through manual cheques.
  • Update and maintain accurate payroll and HR data, contributing to data integrity.
  • Prepare and distribute tax forms and Records of Employment in a timely manner.
  • Reconcile WSIB claim approvals with employees' lost time for payment purposes.
  • Process cheque requisitions for garnishments and manual cheques.
  • Adhere to company policies and follow established procedures.
  • Stay up to date with payroll regulations, standards, and best practices.
  • Oversee payroll processing activities to ensure accurate and timely delivery of payroll.
  • Address external and internal payroll inquiries promptly and accurately.
  • Validate regular and overtime hours with relevant management team members before finalizing payroll.
  • Administer employees' health benefits.
  • Prepare and process annual payroll statements for WSIB and EHT.


Qualifications and Skills

  • Ability to prioritize and deliver results independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong work ethic with a positive attitude
  • Experience working in a standalone role doing full cycle payroll
  • Must have 5-7 years work experience of Canadian payroll(union payroll experience is preferred)
  • An analytical mind with problem-solving aptitude.


Education

  • Completion of post-secondary program in business administration, human resources, accounting or similar.


Nice-to-Haves

  • Previous experience working with ADP or Ceridian is an asset
  • Pursuing PCP or PCP certification will be considered as an asset
