Job Description

Paralegal

About The Opportunity:


We are a global technology company looking for a Paralegal. You will be required to draft all legal notices and letters including but not limited to debtor demand third party demand and notice to vacate letters, letters requesting lien information, and client authorization letters and small claims court materials.


Responsibilities:


  • Draft, review and validate information on legal notices and documents
  • Investigate and resolve priority liens
  • Answer legal queries in accordance with established service level commitments
  • Review escalated files, perform legal research and provide guidance and recommendations
  • Review, investigate and prepare reports on incidents
  • Escalate matters to appropriate internal stakeholders when required


Qualifications:

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize work
  • Knowledge and understanding of application of Canadian collections, repossession and/or bankruptcy related laws, such as personal property security laws, motor vehicle laws, bankruptcy and insolvency laws, repossession laws, repairs and storage lien laws, bailiff laws, consumer protection laws, landlord and tenant laws and small claims court procedures
  • Ability to work in a busy environment with minimal supervision
  • Paralegal certification
  • Strong critical thinking skills required review laws and ambiguities and make recommendations in a concise and logical way
  • 2-3 years’ experience preferred in collections, repossession and/or bankruptcy processes
  • Post-secondary diploma or degree, preferably in paralegal studies
  • Solid legal research skills and thorough knowledge of legal terminology, communication principles and practices
  • Strong written and verbal communication, interpersonal, negotiating and de-escalation skills
  • Strong computer skills (Windows, Microsoft Word, Excel) - typing is mandatory
